RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS: FLYING SAUCERS VS. THE EARTH #1 SELLS OUT!

BELLINGHAM, WASH. (May 16, 2008) - Bluewater Productions announces, RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS: FLYING SAUCERS VS. THE EARTH has completely sold out in less than a week of hitting the shelves.

The consistently sold-out titles at BWP began in June with their first release; the debut title in the publisher's RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS series - WRATH OF THE TITANS #1.

Publisher Darren G. Davis said, "People that saw the art were amazed, it is nothing like you see in comics these days. I was so impressed with Alan's artwork we hired him on the spot. We did a different spin on this title, showing the alien invasion from the alien perspective."

An aggressive publicity push was done on this title with the help of having a preview of the comic appear on the SONY DVD for the 50th Anniversary of the cult Harryhausen film "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers."

This month, BWP said their popular RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS line continue
selling strong, and will be launching "RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS: Back To Mysterious Island" in July and "RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS: The Elementals" in September.

The animated trailer for the comic series was launched today on YouTube and can be seen there at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ba-5hbWOH0

"Our books have sold out almost every month, despite many shop still under-ordering the books. Many readers have contacted us still trying to find our books," said Davis. "I got an email today from a store that just bought out our personal copies. It just goes to show that you don't have to be mainstream to reach the market. Readers just want great stories with great art, if you can deliver that to them, they'll come back for more every month."

The newest title in the Harryhausen line, RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS: FLYING SAUCERS VS. THE EARTH #1, was written by Ryan Burton, with art by Sci Fi novelist artist Alan Brooks, bring you Ray Harryhausen's vision of the 1950s cult classic "Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers" to comic book format! Like every planetary invasion, there are two sides of the story. Told from the perspective of the aliens, see why the Sons of Aberann decide to wage war against Earth, and what type of culture spawned their warmongering ways. See them race on their Screamers in the wastelands of their planet while dodging the beastly Dustspeeds! Witness psychedelic alien fortune telling! And see what fate befalls those who cross the Warlord of Aberann!

PRESS RELEASE - EMERALD CITY JOSH MEDORS BENEFIT AUCTION RAISES OVER $10K!
Even more auctions to come to support Medors!

May 15, 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - This past weekend the Emerald City ComiCon and Frazetta Comics run Josh Medors Benefit Auction raised over $10,000 for the FRANK FRAZETTA'S SWAMP DEMON artist in his fight with cancer.

“The response of the comics community and fans alike has been amazing,” Medors said. "The money raised not only helps out with medical expenses, but it also takes a great weight off my shoulders and helps me focus on what positives I can. I could never thank everyone enough for what they have done for me.”

What started off with a couple of e-mails and phone calls to a few friends turned into a mega event, with over 130 lots of donated original art, books, prints, posters, toys and statues all sold at the auction. Fans unable to attend the event can still support Josh in the Ebay auctions, an original John Romita Sr. Mary Jane sketch, Willow Creek sketch books by artists such as Eric Powell, Tim Vigil and an the opportunity to appear as a zombie in THE WALKING DEAD.

"Please, bid high and bid often, it’s for a good cause," WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman said. "To benefit Josh Medors in his time of need we’re auctioning off a chance to have you (yes, YOU) appear in The WALKING DEAD as a zombie. You’ll get a good appearance, and a good kill, it’s not just a background thing–you’ll get a full appearance that people will see–I promise."

Frazetta Comics Editor/Artist Jay Fotos added, "The auction went off without a hitch even though it was completely overwhelming. We had a small timeframe to auction and a large amount of donations, with people donating lots even during the auction! I can't thank enough to Jim Demonakos and all the ECCC staff that donated their time to help the auction move along smoothly. My hat's off to them, as this was all truly inspiring."

Monetary donations to Josh can be made via PayPal to jmedors1@insight.rr.com. All items are searchable under "Josh Medors Benefit Auction".

VIZ MEDIA PARTNERS WITH HOT TOPIC
TO SUPPORT DEATH NOTE LIVE-ACTION FILM EVENT

Music And Pop Culture Retailer To Offer Tickets To Attend
North American Premiere Of Film Based On Popular Manga
And Animated Supernatural Crime Thriller

San Francisco, CA, May 15, 2008 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), one of the entertainment industry's most innovative and comprehensive publishing, animation and licensing companies, has announced that it will partner with music and pop culture retailer Hot Topic Inc. to promote the upcoming North American film debut of the live-action film, DEATH NOTE, which is based on the popular animated and manga (graphic novel) properties that have swept North America by storm. As part of the special promotion, customers who purchase a DEATH NOTE t-shirt or DVD in select Hot Topic stores will receive a free ticket to attend the film event, while supplies last. More information on the premiere of DEATH NOTE is available at http://www.deathnotefilms.com.

VIZ Pictures, an affiliate of VIZ Media that focuses on Japanese live-action film distribution, has partnered with NCM FATHOM, the entertainment division of National CineMedia, to present the special two-night film event of the DEATH NOTE live-action film at 7:30 pm on May 20 and 21 in 300 cities nationwide. Hot Topic will support the event in nearly 300 stores with in-store signage and special areas in each location offering a variety of DEATH NOTE apparel and related merchandise including DVDs and other accessories. VIZ Media’s SHONEN JUMP magazine will lend additional support with a promo ad in the June issue, which hit stores on May 6, while Hot Topic will highlight the DEATH NOTE film in an article set to appear on its web site at http://community.hottopic.com/buzz/.

“Hot Topic is an ideal strategic retail partner for VIZ Media and we’re extremely excited to deepen our relationship with them to support the U.S. premiere of the DEATH NOTE live-action feature,” says Lauren Rozek, Director, Retail Development, VIZ Media. “Our NARUTO campaign proved extremely successful in helping to cultivate the strong fan base that the NARUTO brand now enjoys. We invite fans to visit Hot Topic and pick up the latest volume of DEATH NOTE on DVD and also get a free ticket to attend this special event.”

DEATH NOTE is based on the hit supernatural action mystery manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The live-action film was released in 2006 to wide acclaim in Japan and was directed by Shusuke Kaneko, known as the director of popular “Gamera” monster film series. The film mirrors the manga’s story of Light Yagami, an ace student with great prospects who is bored out of his mind. All of that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god named Ryuk. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals mysteriously begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to investigate, and he is soon hot on the trail of Light, who must now reevaluate his one noble goal. Both Light and L believe themselves to be on the side of justice, and the two match wits trying to show exactly which of them is "good" and which of them is "evil."

The DEATH NOTE manga and animated series have become extremely popular domestically. The 37-episode animated series is seen by millions each week on cable broadcast and the series is also distributed on DVD by VIZ Media. On the print side, the 12-volume manga series, also published domestically by VIZ Media, continues to be a must-read among legions of ardent fans while DEATH NOTE: HOW TO READ 13, a companion volume to the successful manga series, was recently ranked in USA Today's Top 150 list of America's best-selling books. The DEATH NOTE DVDs and manga are rated T+ for older teens.

THE "SUMMER OF LOVE"
AT THE SWEDISH SMALL PRESS EXPO
*******************************************************

The relationship between the Swedish and American alternative comics
scenes
got a lot stronger a few weeks ago at the 10th Annual Swedish Small
Press
Expo (SPX) held at the famous and opulent KULTURHUSET -- Sweden's
"House of
Culture" in the heart of gorgeous downtown Stockholm.

I was lucky to be invited as a guest of both the convention and the
publishing house ORDFRONT/GALAGO, as this September Top Shelf will be
distributing FROM THE SHADOW OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS, the first ever
all-English anthology of Swedish alternative comics. GALAGO, the
publishing
imprint/anthology that has showcased Swedish alternative cartoonists
for
over 30 (!) years, thought it would be good for me to check out the
comics
scene in Sweden and meet the cartoonists featured in NORTHERN LIGHTS.
And I
am so glad I did!

The efforts of all the Swedish publishers, creators, and especially the
convention organizer, Kristiina Kolehmainen -- who incidentally is the
head
of the Swedish Comics Library (Serieteket) and who has run the Swedish
SPX
since the beginning -- coalesced this year's convention into something
quite remarkable: a true "SUMMER OF LOVE" of the Swedish comics
community.
With a couple thousand comics fans, a hundred Swedish
creators/exhibitors,
and a dozen Scandinavian independent press publishers all putting out
intensely personal and literary works, the Swedish SPX has developed
into
one of the most important comics events in the EU -- on par with the
indy
scenes in the U.S. and France. And from the mood on the floor and at
the
cool parties held each night, I personally witnessed an amazing amount
of
energy and goodwill between the cartoonists and fans, who realize that
the
Swedish comics scene is -- after years of hard work -- finally in full
bloom.

In any event, next April Top Shelf will head back to the Swedish SPX,
bringing along Jeffrey Brown and debuting Niklas Asker's SECOND
THOUGHTS --
the first of several excellent Swedish cartoonists that we'll be
taking on.

And, by the way, a dozen Swedish creators told me they'd be visiting
MoCCA
this June, and the crew from GALAGO told me that they'd be coming to
the
American SPX this October to help showcase FROM THE SHADOW OF THE
NORTHERN
LIGHTS. Let's be sure to welcome them in the States as much as they
welcomed me over there.

A special thanks to Johannes Klenell, the Editor at GALAGO, who set up
the
entire trip for me and was my guide throughout Sweden the entire week.
Also
a big thanks to my other host, Fredrik Strömberg, the Director of the
prestigious comics school in Malmo. I journeyed there and spoke to
their
talented students as well. And finally a big thank you to Anders, Asa,
David, Federico, Fredrik, Ingemar, Jakob, Jamil, Jan-Erik, Jessica,
Johannes, Kim, Knut, Kolbeinn, Kristiina, Liv, Loka, Markus, Martin,
Mats,
Mattias, Melika, Niklas, Ola, Rolf, Simon, Sofia, Steffan, Stina, Ulli,
Victor, and everyone else who made my stay in Sweden so special. --

Slated for release in 2008, the game features innovative Realm vs. Realm combat that immerses players in a world of perpetual conflict.

VIZ PICTURES ANNOUNCES DVD RELEASE OF LIVE ACTION FEATURE FILM - HONEY & CLOVER

Romantic Comedy Based On Popular Manga Series Depicts Five Art Students And Their Transformations From Adolescence To Adulthood

San Francisco, CA, May 12, 2008 – VIZ Pictures, an affiliate of VIZ Media, LLC that focuses on Japanese live-action film distribution, has announced the DVD release of HONEY AND CLOVER today. The live-action film, directed by Masahiro Takata and based on a best-selling manga series by Chica Umino, features English subtitles and will carry an estimated retail price of $24.98. Special bonus features on the disc include cast interviews, and a dedicated website about the film is available at www.honeyandclover.us.

HONEY AND CLOVER is a romantic comedy that focuses on five college students and the art school they attend. Mayama, Morita and Takemoto (played by J-Pop star Sho Sakurai, who also appeared in HULA GIRLS) aren't necessarily living fancy lives, but they always manage to have fun. When a talented and pretty painter named Hagumi Hanamoto (played by HULA GIRLS star Yu Aoi) enrolls in the program, her presence and unique approach to art affects the entire school and her new friends, especially Takamoto. The plot thickens as Hagumi becomes embroiled in a complicated love triangle as she struggles to find her artistic voice. Takemoto has a deft touch with his art, but he's not at his best with relationships, while Mayama is calm and gentle, and Morita is an eccentric genius and a rootless wanderer. Five one-sided feelings are tangling, with no answer in sight. HONEY AND CLOVER showcases the journey that everyone must take to transform from adolescence into adulthood and the long and challenging road these five young people must navigate to balance the demands of school, work, and love.

HONEY AND CLOVER is based on a bestselling manga (graphic novel) series created by Chica Umino which has sold more than 5 million copies to-date in Japan. In 2003 the popular series won the 27th Kodansha Manga Hagu Award, Japan's most prestigious comics award. The manga series was also adapted into an animated series in 2005 and finally into the live-action film released in Japan in 2006. HONEY AND CLOVER is currently serialized in SHOJO BEAT Magazine and the graphic novel is available in the U.S., both published domestically by VIZ Media.

“HONEY AND CLOVER won widespread critical acclaim upon its initial release in Japan for the faithful representation of the manga’s original story,” said Seiji Horibuchi, President and CEO, VIZ Pictures. “The film also reunites J-Pop star and actor Sho Sakurai with actress Yu Aoi, who won the prestigious Japan Academy Prize for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for her portrayal of Kimiko Tanigawa in HULA GIRLS. We are confident that the compelling cast and poignant story that is HONEY AND CLOVER will touch audiences of all stripes."

PRESS RELEASE – “THE ROBERTS” CONTINUES THE TALE OF TWO OF AMERICA’S MOST NOTORIOUS SERIAL MURDERERS!
The Boston Strangler and Zodiac Killer are alive and well, living in a retirement community among the old and dying.

13 May 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - For decades, the identities of the Boston Strangler and the Zodiac Killer have been shrouded in mystery. But this August, Image Comics/Shadowline reveals not only the identities of these two prolific killers, but also how they’re spending their golden years of life. THE ROBERTS hits store shelves courtesy of artist Erik Rose and writer Wayne Chinsang.

"I admit, I've always had a morbid fascination with serial murderers," said writer Wayne Chinsang, also known to the world by his real name, Justin Shady. “When Denis Rader (BTK) finally got caught in 2005 I remember thinking, ‘What if this guy had never been caught? What would he be like as an eighty-year-old man? Or as a grandfather? How long could someone like him go on living a lie, trying to blend in when he so clearly doesn’t?’ Those thoughts were the start of THE ROBERTS.”

But instead of BTK, Chinsang chose two murderers who many believe were never caught: the Boston Strangler and the Zodiac Killer. In THE ROBERTS, the killers find themselves immersed in a world of bingo tournaments and social tea hours as they trade "war stories" about what they refer to as the “Golden Age” of mass murder. But camaraderie can also have a dark side as both men still crave the one thing they feel they’ve missed out on: infamy.

THE ROBERTS #1, a two-issue, 48-page, black-and-white mini-series for $5.99, will be in stores August 6th.

ZEN INTERGALACTIC NINJA COMING BACK FROM DDP

New collection of classic Zen stories and a brand new series to launch this Fall

Chicago, IL. (May 13, 2008) – A comic book icon who set the tone for environmental awareness in the 1990's will re-emerge this Fall from Devil's Due. DDP proudly announces the return of Zen Intergalactic Ninja, the alien hero who originally stormed through comics and video games with a uniquely quirky and dramatic style of action.

"To me, comic-books should always be more than just damn good entertainment," said Stephen Stern, writer/co-creator of Zen Intergalactic Ninja. "That's why Zen turned his sights on saving Earth's environment, back in the early 90's. My co-creator Dan Cote and I had the opportunity to get the message across to hundreds of thousands of young people, through our Archie Comics series, an action figure line from Just Toys, and both a GameBoy and NES game from Konami."

With an all new 99-cent preview story hitting stores in September and a classic collection of Zen's greatest tales due in October, Devil's Due plans to bring Zen back in classic form for old and new readers alike. An alien trained in the martial arts, Zen was born from a lab experiment and cast into the cosmos to find his path.

"Zen already has a cult following, and now is the perfect time to re-collect a lot of Zen's hard-to-find classic storyarcs and bring him back into comics for today's audience," said DDP President Josh Blaylock.

DDP's first collection of classic Zen will include the original series' "Rawhide" trilogy – the story of Zen's fight against a terrorist who becomes a super-weapon after being irradiated by a nuclear explosion.

"Dan and I are particularly pleased that Devil's Due has decided to make that story the centerpiece of the first Zen trade paperback it will publish," said Stern. DDP plans to follow with other classic collections of Zen adventures.

"Zen looked at the topics of environmentalism and terrorism in a different way that could only have happened in comics," said Blaylock. "These themes have never been more timely, and I'm excited that DDP are going to be the ones ushering in his return."

Dark Horse Comics proudly announces the arrival of a most peculiar graphic novel experience -- Larry Marder's Beanworld!

Beanworld has captivated readers from grade school to grad school since its first publication as a series of comic books in the 1980s. Starting in early 2009, Dark Horse will present Beanworld as a series of affordable graphic novels collecting all existing Beanworld stories, with new material to follow in the same format, beginning with the all new graphic novel Remember Here When You Are There! To whet the appetite of new and loyal fans alike, Dark Horse will also release an all new Beanworld webcomic this Fall, with a full color Beanworld comic book to follow in time for the holidays!

Series creator Larry Marder explains, "Beanworld is about the affinity of life. It's like A Bugs Life meets Mutts, as told by Dr. Seuss & Joseph Campbell. It's a weird fantasy dimension that operates under its own rules and laws, but also reflects deep truths about our world in doing so. All the characters, whether they are friends or adversaries, understand that ultimately they depend on each other for survival. Beanworld isn't a place, it's a process, and I can't wait to share that process with a new generation of readers!"

"I couldn't be happier to welcome Larry Marder's wonderful stories home here at Dark Horse! I've always felt this is where they belonged, and I'm thrilled to be bringing them to today's readers," says Dark Horse President, Mike Richardson.

"Wahoolazuma! Larry Marder's personal Look-See Show is back on the boards! Beanworld is simply a joyous experience," said editor Diana Schutz, "total eye-candy, and it's good for you, too!"

"When Beanworld was first published, many people said it was ahead of its time," Marder says. "Looking at today's world raised on Pixar, Cartoon Network, and manga, I think it's fair to say that Beanworld's time has come. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team at Dark Horse to introduce the Beanworld to this comics-literate world!"

Look for Beanworld adventures, new and old, in the coming year!

BLUESMAN: FROM GRAPHIC NOVEL TO VIDEO
Before the feature film, see the video version

In time for NBM Publishing’s June 2008 release of the collected
hardcover, Bluesman graphic-novel writer Rob Vollmar and Flash
animation producer Robert Butler have turned Vollmar’s story and Pablo
Callejo’s art into a short video available now on NBM Publishing’s
website and YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpQWQBnmW-o
http://www.nbmpub.com/comicslit/bluesman/bluesmovie.html

Bluesman plunges traveling musicians Lem and Ironwood into Deep South
juke joints of the 1920s. When Ironwood tries to stop a white man from
attacking his black mistress, all three end up dead. Lem, the sole
survivor, finds a racist posse chasing him throughout the South.

The movie rights were optioned in 2007. Attached to the film are
Grammy-winning musician Keb’ Mo’ (Suitcase) and producers Jason
Koornick (Nicolas Cage’s Next) and Lawrence Blume (whom The Hollywood
Reporter has called one of the “Ten Rising Stars of Comedy”).

Vollmar is a comics retailer in Oklahoma. Callejo lives in Spain.
Here’s what the critics say.
“There's enough suspense and atmosphere here to make anyone grip their

chair and feel transported.”--Los Angeles Times
“Callejo's woodcut-like style portrays the magic realist climax and
documentary coda particularly brilliantly. Consider Bluesman a worthy
shelf mate for such other historical graphic novels.”--Booklist
“Writer Rob Vollmar imagines a place rich in meaning and menace; Pablo

G. Callejo's expressive B&W images give it vibrancy.”--Entertainment
Weekly
“Bluesman mixes the mythic and dramatic with the nitty-gritty reality
of the hard parts of life, just like a good blues song.”--Publishers
Weekly
Black-and-white jacketed hardcover, 6” x 9”, 224 pages, $24.95, ISBN

The armored Toa, who wear Masks of Power and can control the elements,
attack Makuta. During the fight, the Toa become the Toa Nuva, with new
armor, weapons, and Masks of Power. But will all of that be enough to
defeat Makuta?

universe, Greg Farshtey. The artists of Papercutz’s BIONICLE #1 are
Carlos D’Anda (DC Comics’ Outsiders), Aliens vs. Predator storyboard
