VIZ MEDIA ANNOUNCES  SIMULTANEOUS DIGITAL RELEASE WITH JAPAN OF TAKESHI OBATA’S
ALL YOU NEED IS KILL MANGA ON JUNE 19TH

Adaptation By DEATH NOTE Creator Of The Bestselling Sci-Fi Action Novel That Inspired The Summer Blockbuster Edge Of Tomorrow Also To Debut November 4th In Deluxe 2-In-1 Print Edition

San Francisco, CA, May 16, 2014 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), the largest publisher, distributor and licensor of manga and anime in North America, offers time-loop sci-fi military action from one of the biggest names in manga with the debut of Takeshi Obata’s ALL YOU NEED IS KILL on Thursday June 19th, the same day it is available in Japan. The new manga will release digitally across all platforms serviced by VIZManga.com and the VIZ MANGA App, and will also be available on the storefronts for the Kindle, iBooks, GooglePlay, Kobo and Nook.

ALL YOU NEED IS KILL Volumes 1 & 2 are rated ‘T+’ for Older Teens and will each carry a digital MSRP of $6.99. VIZ Media plans to release a deluxe omnibus print volume on November 4th under its Shonen Jump Advanced imprint (MSRP U.S. $14.99 / CAN $16.99).

Takeshi Obata’s ALL YOU NEED IS KILL ran in VIZ Media’s WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP digital manga magazine earlier this year and is the stunning manga realization of the popular Japanese sci-fi novel, written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. In the rousing action story, when the alien Mimics invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor called a Jacket and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to be reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On his fifth iteration, he gets a message from a mysterious ally – the female soldier known as the Full Metal Bitch. Is she the key to Keiji's escape or his final death?

The bestselling ALL YOU NEED IS KILL novel also inspired a new live-action summer blockbuster – Edge of Tomorrow – starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton that is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theatres on June 6th.

The original novel also was the launch title in 2009 for Haikasoru, VIZ Media’s unique literary imprint dedicated to publishing the most compelling contemporary Japanese science fiction and fantasy for English-speaking audiences. New York Times best-selling author John Scalzi declared ALL YOU NEED IS KILL to be a book that, "reads fast, kicks ass, and keeps on coming," and it has proven to be one of Haikasoru's most popular titles. VIZ Media has also published a special movie tie-in version of the ALL YOU NEED IS KILL/EDGE OF TOMORROW novel to support the release of the new live-action film.
“Takeshi Obata interprets this critically acclaimed novel in a new way with his manga treatment of ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, and we can’t wait for fans to discover the exciting new digital release in June, debuting just after the highly anticipated premiere of the Edge of Tomorrow film,” says Andy Nakatani, Editor. “The riveting characters and climactic action tale are depicted with Obata’s signature flair. Don’t miss this special new release from one of the most renowned creators of the manga genre!”

Manga artist Takeshi Obata was born in 1969 in Niigata, Japan, and is the artist of the wildly popular SHONEN JUMP title HIKARU NO GO (available from VIZ Media), which won the 2003 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize: Shinsei "New Hope" award and the 2000 Shogakukan Manga award. Obata is also the artist of the smash hit series, DEATH NOTE (also published by VIZ Media), as well as Arabian Majin Bokentan Lamp Lamp, Ayatsuri Sakon, Cyborg Jichan G. ALL YOU NEED IS KILL is his latest work following the hugely successful series BAKUMAN (also published by VIZ Media).

Readers are invited to catch the ALL YOU NEED IS KILL manga featured on VIZManga.com and the VIZ MANGA App for the iPad®, iPhone® and iPod® touch, Android-powered smart phones and 7” tablets, as well as on the Nook, Kindle, Kobo, iBooks and GooglePlay stores. THE SAVAGE BROTHERS DELUXE EDITION TP Cover by Rafael Albuquerque

May 16,  2014 - Los Angeles, CA - Just as the dead walk again, THE SAVAGE BROTHERS have returned! The popular BOOM! Studios title is being resurrected to kick off the publisher’s new line of full-sized, deluxe editions, leading into the publisher’s 10th anniversary in 2015. These deluxe editions of early BOOM! Studios series are perfect for new readers or for existing fans who are looking to enjoy the book in its larger format.
Written by Andrew Cosby (co-creator of the hit SyFy show Eureka) and Johanna Stokes (Eureka, THE CALLING: CTHULHU CHRONICLES), THE SAVAGE BROTHERS DELUXE EDITION TP is presented in standard comic size for the first time (the first edition was printed in 6” x 9” digest size) and features a brand-new cover by interior artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire, Animal Man). By the way, SAVAGE BROTHERS was Albuquerque’s first work on a full-length American series. Before he perfected vampires, he was giving you another monster—zombies! Never has the zombie apocalypse looked so rich and vibrant.

“Reprinting some of our classic BOOM! titles and giving them the deluxe edition treatment is something we’ve been itching to do,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Starting off with SAVAGE BROTHERS is a perfect entry point; this is the series that Rafael cut his teeth on before he went on to become the star he is today. And we had to have him come back to do a new cover!”

When the living want their undead loved ones put out of their misery, the Savage Brothers are the only two guys for the job. But their latest job takes them on a strange trip, involving virgin strippers, heads in jars, and the secret of the zombie apocalypse! This special edition also contains two terrifying reprints of Zombie Tales stories from Johanna Stokes, J.K. Woodward, and Keith Giffen.

Other upcoming Deluxe Editions from BOOM! Studios include TAG by Keith Giffen, Kody Chamberlain, and Chee; and TALENT by Christopher Golden and Paul Azaceta. Previous series recollected in the Deluxe Edition format include 2 GUNS by Steven Grant and Mateus Santolouco and DINGO by Michael Alan Nelson and Francesco Biagini.

IMPERIAL—A NEW SUPERHERO COMEDY
What will one man choose? True love or a destiny for greatness?
Steven T. Seagle (Genius, It’s a Bird…, THE RED DIARY/THE RE[A]D DIARY) teams up with artist Mark Dos Santos for a bromantic comedy with hero chops in IMPERIAL, coming this August from Man of Action and Image Comics. Seagle teases, “It’s a buddy book with serious commitment issues.”

Mark is a couple of weeks out from the biggest day of his life—his wedding day—but then fate steps in and pulls the rug out from under him. He is faced with an impossible choice: Marry the woman who loves, understands, and puts up with his (many) human failings? Or, leave her at the altar in order to take up the helm of the world's one and only superhero, Imperial? Up until now, there was nothing in Mark's life to suggest that he was the least bit remarkable, so why would the retiring Imperial choose him to be the protector of all mankind? Why now? And how will learning to shoot laser beams from his eyes impact Mark’s rehearsal dinner schedule? If the choice is superhero cred vs. true love—does Mark disappoint the world… or the woman of his dreams?

IMPERIAL #1 arrives in stores on 8/6 and is available to pre-order with Diamond Code JUN140469.

Godzilla Resurfaces In A New Mini-Series
An Apocalyptic Wasteland Awaits The King Of The Monsters!
San Diego, CA (May 6, 2014) – This summer, the fire-breathing goliath, Godzilla faces a ravaged earth in the brand new mini-series Godzilla: Cataclysm! Like the previous critically acclaimed Godzilla mini-series, Godzilla: The Half-Century War, this new five-issue series explores a self-contained journey of epic proportions!
Last seen in the monster apocalypse, Godzilla has all but abandoned humanity. In the ashes of a nightmarish future, an elder tribe leader, Hiroshi, is haunted by the monsters of the past that nearly wiped out mankind. As danger begins to escalate for his tribe, the memories of the past may well be the key to saving the future.

Industry veteran Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) brings his renowned talents to the series as writer, with the immensely skilled Dave Wachter (Night of 1,000 Wolves) handling the art in this dystopian Cataclysm.

“I've wanted to write a Godzilla story for as long as I can remember,” said Bunn, “before I even started Kindergarten, I drew a book titled ATTACK OF THE MONSTERS, which featured Godzilla, along with other monsters, terrorizing the world. The story started with Godzilla erupting from an iceberg and ended when the military dropped a massive sword on his head. I like to think that my storytelling sensibilities have matured since those days, but the desire to write a Godzilla story has remained with me.”

2014 marks the 60th anniversary of Godzilla stomping on to the screen and captivating audiences worldwide. Fans can catch Godzilla every month in the ongoing IDW Godzilla series, Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. Godzilla: Cataclysm will come crashing down, starting this August. Follow IDW on Facebook, facebook.com/idwpublishing and on Twitter @IDWPublishing for information and updates.

A SUPERPOWERED
MURDER MYSTERY IN
PROTECTORS, INC.

Latest Straczynski superhero title from Image Comics takes on corporatization

In PROTECTORS, INC., a new Image Comics title from J. Michael Straczynski and Gordon Purcell, superheroes have been privatized and corporatized. With no supervillains to occupy their time, super-powered people ply their time as spokespersons and franchise their images for profit — with a cut going to their employer, Protectors, Inc., which has a corner on the superhero market in Chicago. They lead charmed lives until one of them is found murdered and the trail for the killer leads back to the Protectors.
In June, this mystery will unfold in PROTECTORS, INC. VOLUME 1 by J. Michael Straczynski (TEN GRAND, SIDEKICK) and Gordon Purcell (Star Trek), a graphic novel collecting the first half of the latest Joe’s Comics series published by Image.
At the heart of the mystery is the origin of the Protectors’ powers. Endowed with super-human abilities during World War II, they are nevertheless ignorant of the source of their power.
“That there have never been any bad guys with powers seems to indicate that whatever entered the world that day during WW2 is being very selective in terms of who gets those abilities,” Straczynski explained in an interview at Newsarama. “The question, of course, is...is that true, or is it simply a cover for something else? Is there a conspiracy at the center of Protectors Inc. that has been there almost from day one? If so, they've been able to cover it up pretty well, and might be able to do so indefinitely...unless something goes terribly wrong.”
Standing in the way of Detective John Riley’s investigation of the murder is the very company the Protectors thought existed to safeguard their interests: Protectors, Inc. Detective Riley will have to delve deep and keep out of the crosshairs of one of the most powerful corporations in the country to discover the truth.
PROTECTORS, INC. VOLUME 1 merges the hope and exuberance of Golden Age superhero comics with the darker explorations of the genre in books like Watchmen. It will be in comic book stores on June 4 and bookstores on June 17 and is available for pre-order now.
PROTECTORS, INC. VOLUME 1 by J. Michael Straczynski and Gordon Purcell (colors by Michael Atiyeh)
  • ISBN 978-1-63215-049-3
  • 160 pages, full color, paperback
  • $12.99
  • In comic book stores June 4, in bookstores June 17
  • Collects issues #1-6 of PROTECTORS, INC.
Praise for PROTECTORS, INC.:
“...a prime showcase of exemplary collaboration in creating not only a fascinating world but a resonant social satire.”
- Meagan Damore, Comic Book Resources
“If you are looking for a change of pace from the primary hero fare and want something a little different, yet with some elements that you like, then Protectors, Inc. is right up your alley. If you don’t like superhero stories and prefer more hard hitting drama, then Protectors, Inc.  also meets that need. Finally, if you just want a good and entertaining story with superb writing and art, we’ll Protectors, Inc. meets that too. It’s a comic that will not disappoint in any areas.”
- James Anders II,
Comic Bastards

BRUBAKER AND PHILLIPS BLAST INTO
THE FADE OUT
An all-new crime series
from the Noir masters coming this August
Ed Brubaker (FATALE, VELVET, Captain America: Winter Soldier) and Sean Phillips (FATALE, Criminal, Marvel Zombies) launch the first show-stopper from their unprecedented five-year deal announced at Image Expo in January—the hotly anticipated epic noir series, THE FADE OUT.

As an added bonus to this exciting launch, this first issue will clock in at 40 pages and feature exclusive back page articles. For fans wishing to experience noir fiction in true ‘40s style, an oversized "movie magazine replica" variant edition with 8 extra pages of behind-the-scenes art and articles will be available for order.

An intricate and groundbreaking crime story on a level Brubaker and Phillips have never tackled before, THE FADE OUT weaves a tangled web through the underbelly of a 1948 Hollywood... A noir film stuck in endless reshoots. A writer plagued with nightmares from the war and a dangerous secret. An up-and-coming starlet's suspicious death. And a maniacal studio mogul and his security chief who will do anything to keep the cameras rolling before the Post-War boom days come crashing down. THE FADE OUT is the most ambitious series yet from the award-winning Noir Masters.

Early praise for THE FADE OUT:
"Brubaker and Phillips's books have always been about eight years ahead of their time." —Brian K. Vaughan (SAGA, Y the Last Man)

"Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are the gold standard of the crime graphic novel." —Warren Ellis (Planetary, Transmetropolitan, Gun Machine, Fell)

"Brubaker & Phillips continue to make sweet music together, broadcast to you in the form of the best comics around." —Robert Kirkman (THE WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE)

"How can you resist the Lennon and McCartney of Feel-Bad Comics Noir heading out west for the flickering horrors of Hollywoodland? THE FADE OUT feels like the book Ed and Sean were born to make." —Matt Fraction (SEX CRIMINALS, CASANOVA, Hawkeye)

"Ed and Sean are that rare longterm collaboration that never become complacent, each project is a new revelation, the love visibly increased, the enthusiasm for the craft only growing over time. You don't have to consider the purchase, you make it on instinct at this point." —Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS)

"Like Scorsese and De Niro, Brubaker and Phillips are the unmatched masters of a certain kind of storytelling—those fables of doomed and deluded men who are ready to die bloody, defending the tatters of their soiled American dreams. A new title from the sharpshooters behind Criminal and Fatale is reason enough to go on living." —Joe Hill (Locke & Key, Horns, NOS4A2)

"Brubaker and Phillips have achieved the sort of creative consistency that'd justify critics filing their INSTANT CLASSIC reviews before they even read whatever they put out next." —Kieron Gillen (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, Phonogram, Young Avengers)

"I’ve been reading Ed Brubaker comics since the first appearance of Ed Brubaker comics and every single time he announces a new title I mutter to myself: 'ugh! I wish I would’ve thought of that!'" —Brian Michael Bendis (POWERS, Alias, Ultimate Spider-Man)

"I'm a pretty easy mark for any Brubaker-Philips creation, but the ambition behind this one has me spinning with anticipation. Couldn't be more excited." —Jonathan Hickman (EAST OF WEST, MANHATTAN PROJECTS, Avengers)

J.G. Jones is one of the top-flight talents in the industry,” says Marvel SVP, Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “His covers and interior work for Marvel and other publishers have stood the test of time and we’re thrilled he could contribute a gorgeous variant cover to Amazing Spider-Man #1.2.
Jones is always a big hit at Wizard World shows. His works include "Brian K. Vaughan's Y: The Last Man," the "Villains United" series and Grant Morrison's “Marvel Boy.” Jones earned Eisner Award nominations in 2002 for "Codename: Knockout" and "Transmetropolitan" and in 2006 for "Wanted."
J.G. is one of the top creators in the industry. His art on Spider-Man is absolutely incredible,” says John Macaluso, Wizard World CEO. “Once again, we are pleased to have J.G. on hand to sign these limited edition books for the fans.”
J. Jonah’s Jameson’s crusade against Spider-Man kicks into overdrive! He warned us! He told us that kids might try to emulate Spider-Man! And he was RIGHT! Meet CLASH, New York’s newest menace. He may be Spidey’s biggest fan, but he’s about to become one of his worst enemies. Wanted by the cops, turned away by the Fantastic Four, his grades are slipping, and he still hasn’t figured out this whole crime-fighting-thing. Pete’s not a hero… not yet… but he’ll get there. Somehow. Writer: Dan Slott; Artist: Rámon Pérez; Cover: Alex Ross.
