Hey gang,
Sorry for four e-mails in one week. But, I plum forgot that the TV
movie I co-wrote with my Cleaners (coming Fall 2008 from Dark Horse!)
co-writer Mark Wheaton airs this weekend on Sci Fi.
I have no idea how much of my script is still there, or if it's any
good. I do know that it stars Judd Nelson and Isabella Rosselini. I
suspect at at least one or more times somebody peels off their skin. I also
know that if it gets good ratings they play it more, and I get paid
more.
So, in the name of my bank account, please, tune into Sci-Fi Channel on
Sunday night at 9pm Eastern to Watch: Infected.
I look forward to being mercilessly teased.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 24, 2008 - In an ongoing effort to secure Democratic hopeful Barack Obama's presidential bid, The 008 and Upper Playground have collaborated with Brooklyn-based Morning Breath to create a new limited screenprint of the duo's portrait of Obama. The Morning Breath poster is part of an ongoing series of artist collaborations in support of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
The Morning Breathe limited screenprint is now available for purchase online through www.upperplayground.com. The posters will be signed and numbered by the artists and are made at a limited quantity of 200, and retail at $200. The poster is a pre-sale item and will not ship until May 21, 2008. All proceeds from the sales of the Morning Breath Obama posters will go directly to creating more campaign T-shirts, posters and stickers by other artists in support of Obama's bid for President. Previously, Munk One's poster, also sold through Upper Playground was used in a bus shelter visability campaign throughout Philadelphia prior to the primary in Pennsylvania.
The 008 and Upper Playground are also pleased to announce an upcoming Independent Barack Obama Campaign Poster Art exhibition featuring all the artists who have contributed poster art for this Barack Obama 2008 campaign and many more still to be revealed. In the past two months, with the support of The 008, Upper Playground endorsed Obama's campaign by creating posters featuring artwork from The Date Farmers, Mac, Sam Flores, and Munk One, as well as printing T-shirts with Shepard Fairey's Obama poster graphics to help support the grass roots campaign. The exhibition will feature work from the Upper Playground collaborations, as well as work from some of the biggest names in contemporary art that will soon announced. The 008 and Upper Playground will announce full details, exhibiting artists, and location in the next month.

RAY HARRYHAUSEN & JULES VERNE TEAM UP AGAIN FOR THE COMIC SERIES "BACK TO MYSTERIOUS ISLAND"
BELLINGHAM, WA - "Mysterious Island" is a 19th Century novel by Jules Verne that was turned into a film by Ray Harryhausen in 1961. Fast forward to 2008 to Bluewater Productions "Back To Mysterious Island". Written by Max Landis and penciled by Kevin Gentilcore. Alternate covers are by Matt Frank and Eagle award nominee Azim Akberali. Issue 4 will feature a cover by Ray Harryhausen himself!
"Back to Mysterious Island" is described as, Two zoologists who've been hired to survey the day to day life of penguins on a rogue iceberg end up finding out their job is a lot more complicated than they originally
expected. The entire primary cast is original, although Landis created a plot device to fit in a slew of Harryhausen monsters that a lot of people will probably be happy to see. The group later discovers that their secret helper is the reclusive Captain Nemo (first introduced in Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea).
“When we were going through the Ray Harryhausen catalog this was one of the stories we were excited to tell. It has everything from action, adventure and a giant chicken.” stated Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis. “This is a classic tale from Jules Verne and Max Landis did an amazing job" Davis continues "Our Ray Harryhausen tales are unique, not adaptations from the films. We are trying to tell the stories of these established characters".
Writer Max Landis said" Ray Harryhausen's films have always been important to me. Something about the personalization of monsters, something I'd been unfamiliar with when I first saw the movies as a child. I remember seeing seventh Voyage Of Sinbad for the first time when I was seven or eight, but I must've seen it a dozen times before then. See, I was a Godzilla kid. I was raised in a very, very movie-reverrent household, and Godzilla was like mothers-milk. However, though I didn't realize it then, Godzilla was just a stepping stone."
Landis continues, "So when I came across this job; found out Id have the opportunity to take that Cyclops who'd diligently entertained me for so many hours, died a thousand deaths in his struggle against the dragon, into my hands, I was ecstatic. To make him walk, and talk, move and fight and exist, even if only on paper…Well, it was the answer to a question I didn't know I'd asked."
Artist Kevin Gentilcore, "Back To Mysterious Island has been really cool and fun to work on! It is a great story and very unique with it's handling of all things Harryhausen with respect to the original Verne concept. Oh and don't forget the monsters! Fans won't be disappointed!"
To order “Back to Mysterious Island” go to the new issue of PREVIEWS: DIAMOND CODE MAY08 3668

JOHANNA STOKES' STATION LAUNCHES INTO THE STRATOSPHERE THIS JUNE FROM
BOOM! STUDIOS
220 miles above Earth, murder rocks the International Space Station.
April 24th, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) -- Two hundred and twenty miles doesn't seem that far unless you're looking down. Five nations have come together to build the crowning achievement in space travel, but now one astronaut is dead. Is it sabotage? An accident? Or murder? Find out in BOOM!'s new mini-series, STATION!
A thriller in the vein of WHITEOUT, STATION is the creation of Johanna Stokes, writer of the EUREKA TV episodes "Right as Raynes" and "Purple Haze," with art by newcomer Leno Carvalho. A 4-issue monthly mini-series beginning this June, STATION explores murder at the extreme edges of the earth.
Bringing a Hitchcockian level of suspense little-seen in the comics medium, STATION puts a new twist on the classic "locked room" murder mystery, focusing on space tourist Dyson as he tries to find out why one of his crewmates is dead, who killed him, and why.
"Johanna always amazes me with her versatility as a writer," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid. "STATION shows a whole new side to her talent. The action is great. The suspense is great. This is going be a must-buy for both comic and mystery fans everywhere!"
Stokes is familiar to fans of BOOM! Studios' work, having written MR. STUFFINS, DEATH VALLEY, and SAVAGE BROTHERS. Stokes has also contributed to BOOM!'s anthology books PIRATE TALES, ZOMBIE TALES, and CTHULHU TALES.
With STATION, Stokes takes the "locked room" thriller to new heights, playing on the classic conventions of mystery while infusing the narrative with a great cast of characters and the intrigue of the stars.
"I'm thrilled to hear the fan praise and glad that readers are giving me a chance," Stokes said. "And I'm also glad that I've found a place that will let me tell the stories I want to tell. STATION will live up to the hype."
STATION #1 features cover art by Leno Carvalho, item order code: APR083635.

Comics Waiting Room
Dear friends, family, and associates,
I'm excited to announce that the first of the THREE FINAL EPISODES of Satacracy 88 is up at itsallinyourhands.tv.
Thanks to our amazing cast and crew, it's some of the best work we've ever done. I'm proud to share it with all of you.
Check it out: http://itsallinyourhands.ning.com/Satacracy_88/page/show?id=1970503%3APage%3A9241
Though the series will reach its climax over the next two weeks, this is not the end of the line for 88. Right now we are developing the next chapter of her life as one of The Knights of a Hundred Sorrows.
I can't say too much more about it yet, except that it will begin to unfold slowly in places familiar to 88 and Futurist fans and will soon grow into an epic online adventure.
It is because of the continuing support of our fans that we have been able to bring our story to the conclusion it deserves. For that, I am eternally grateful.
Thanks for tuning in to watch our work over the past two years. It's been an exciting ride and I can't wait to go on more adventures with you in the future.
All the best,
Brad

GARY PHILLIPS' HIGH ROLLERS DEBUTS FROM BOOM! STUDIOS THIS JUNE
CRIME DOES PAY!
April 23rd, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) -- Critically acclaimed mystery novelist Gary Phillips (L.A. NOIR, BANGERS) and BOOM! Studios bring comic fans the new crime series HIGH ROLLERS, an inner-city spin on THE SOPRANOS, featuring stunning artwork from Sergio (AFTER THE CAPE II) Carrera with inspired covers by Brett (THE SURROGATES) Weldele.
A tale of crime and destiny in the vein of SCARFACE, HIGH ROLLERS spotlights Cameron Quinn, "CQ." a ruthless enforcer out to make a name for himself, with Phillips shining a harsh light on the action and drama of the L.A. underworld. HIGH ROLLERS is a four-issue miniseries, coming out monthly for fans of violent and penetrating crime stories like THE SOPRANOS and THE WIRE!
"We're happy to have such a talented crime writer of Gary Phillips' caliber (pun intended) working with us," said BOOM! Studios editor-in-chief Mark Waid. "Gangsters and the Mafia are America's new vampires - the dark creatures of the underground that fascinate and appall us - and there is no one better to explore this territory than Gary Phillips."
Phillips continues his comic book career with BOOM! Studios having written ANGELTOWN for DC's Vertigo imprint and both SHOT CALLERZ and MIDNIGHT MOVER for Oni Press. With HIGH ROLLERS, Phillips explores the L.A. crime underworld using gritty characters in high-stakes situations bringing to bear not only his experience as a crime novelist but also his experience as a native Angeleno.
"This is a story about the city and the people that live in it," said Phillips. "Crime stories appeal to readers because of their escapist tendencies, but these are also stories about our world - America today - and the dangerous allure of anti-heroes who exist by their own code."
The past few years have seen the increasing popularity of crime fiction in various media, from HBO's THE WIRE to Ed Brubaker's CRIMINAL. What began in the early ' 90s with shows like LAW & ORDER and HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET continues to evolve today with movies like AMERICAN GANGSTER and the GRAND THEFT AUTO video game franchise, marking a shift from showcasing police who patrol the streets to focusing on those who must survive in them. HIGH ROLLERS continues this trend of urban intrigue and action from the perspective of the criminal.
HIGH ROLLERS #1 features cover art by Brett Weldele, item order code: APR083634.

DRMASTER PUBLICATIONS PRESENTS
YASUSHI SUZUKI’S GOTHS CAGE
SAN JOSE, CA – April, 2008 – DrMaster Publications proudly announces the production of the highly anticipated picture book by internationally acclaimed video game designer Yasushi Suzuki (a.k.a. – D-Suzuki), Goths Cage (previously titled Phantoms).
Goths Cage is an enchanting manga-esque picture book anthology of three short stories with a malicious twist of love and romance. It is based on Yasushi Suzuki’s art series that was previously released online in Japan under the name Phantoms KADAN. Suzuki-san re-adapts his art series and transforms it into a bewitching picture book with entrancing grace and charm. Each of his gothic tales is exquisitely crafted with elegant detailed illustrations that transport readers into an enchanted world of gothic glory.
In his first story, Glass Magic, Suzuki-san does a twisted take on the classic Cinderella tale. An ugly corpse-like servant girl wishes to fall in love with a prince and become a beautiful princess. Then a sinister old witch offers her a magic potion that can grant her heart’s desires, but in order for the magic to work she must abandon her soul. She gets rid of her memories, her face, and her master to become a cruelly beautiful glass princess.
In another of Suzuki’s splendidly dark tales, the shop keeper of an enchanted barbershop attends to his beautiful victim under the moonlight. He snips away at her thoughts and memories, mystically cutting away all her painful memories that scar her heart. However, because she is sapped of her thoughts and memories, all that is left is her pitiful empty body.
Prepare to be mesmerized by Yasushi Suzuki’s spine-chilling tales of love and entrancement this Fall 2008, because this enchanting collection of spellbinding illustrations and twisted tales is a must-have!
About the Creator:
Yasushi Suzuki is a world renowned video game conceptual designer and animator. His work on IKARUGA (Sega), Sin & Punishment (Nintendo), Radiant Silver Gun (Sega), and so many other games, mainly under the gaming development giant TREASURE GAMES, has earned him a following few other conceptual designers can match. He has also meticulously compiled a stunning cache of his own work history in an art book – The Art of Yasushi Suzuki, which showcases nearly 100 images, some of which were designed specifically for the collection, including art from the video games Ikaruga (Sega), and Sin & Punishment (Nintendo), as well as cover art from the Japanese language version of George R.R. Martin’s New York Times bestselling novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
Availability
Goths Cage will be available October 2008, and will be priced at $12.95. All 32 pages of the hardcover book will be printed in full-color.

Hey gang,
The following has been going around, and, if you can help at all,
please read up. I've known Josh for four or five years, and aside from
being a kick ass artist, he is one of the sweetest guys in this business.
He's best known for his work with Steve Niles, and has been doing some
amazingly fresh work as a horror artist. He's far too young to be
going through this crap, and, the world being what it is, well... y'know...
Read up on what you can do to help.

It has come to my attention one of Image's own, Josh Medors (artist of
the upcoming FRANK FRAZETTA'S SWAMP DEMON), has long been fighting
cancer. While things have been on the upswing, a recent analysis showed a
recently removed tumor has come back and unless his radiation therapy
helps, he may only have three months to live.
In light of this news, we've immediately organized an auction for this
upcoming Emerald City Comic Con to support Josh.
From Frazetta Comics Editor, Jay Fotos:
------------------------------------------------------------------
I have some not good news...
Josh Medors, artist on Frazetta's Swamp Demon has cancer, he went in
and got a tumor removed from his spine a few months ago and it's back and
with more specialists involved found out it's a very rare cancer that
is normally found in the brain.
He is in kemo therapy now and was told if this does not work he has 3
months to live.
Of course like most freelance artists he does not have insurance.
So, I would like to do as much as I can to raise some money to help pay
for
some of his bills.
I'm working with Image Comics now on setting up a auction at Emerald
City Comicon(in 2 weeks)...that Frazetta Comics will have a booth
at.
So I ask everyone here is that you can donate something for this
auction that would be greatly appreciated.
Josh is a good friend, father and artist.
With the support from the comic industry that he loves dearly, we can
all help ease his pain just a little would be most appreciated.
Please contact me on what you would like to donate.
They can be sent to:

Radical announces Jim Steranko covers for Hercules
April 22nd, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Radical Publishing is proud to announce that legendary, award winning artist Jim Steranko has provided covers for issue #1 and #2 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Steranko also designed the Hercules character and created the logo that is being used on all issues of Radical's Hercules. For issue #2 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Jim Steranko's cover is a homage to the popular 1968 Incredible Hulk King-Sized Special #1 cover. The story of Hercules: The Thracian Wars is described as:
Three thousand two hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules, powerful son of the god king Zeus, received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and the presence of death. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight, only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. However, Hercules begins to question King Cotys' motives when he takes his army out to battle and sees them practice on innocent men, women, and children. Deep in his soul something stirs, but is it enough to stop a mad king and his army of the damned from marching across Greece or even Olympus itself?
"Obviously, we are very honored to have Jim Steranko, a legend in this business, to provide not only these two gorgeous covers but to have helped shape our Hercules character using his vision and expertise," stated Radical Publishing President and Publisher, Barry Levine. "This, combined with the designs and interior artwork of Imaginary Friends Studios based on Steve Moore's epic adventure, creates a unique Hercules that no one has ever attempted to bring to life."
In discussing his cover for issue #1 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Jim Steranko explains,
"The series' story takes place after the Labors, we felt the traditional action approach would be a cliche. The Radical version is different from all other comics' versions and I felt my cover should underscore that quality. So, instead of casting it in spine-cracking action, I did the opposite: I visualized a silently inert, fearsomely intense Hercules, a Hercules just before the storm, a moment crackling with tension! I deliberately hid his face in shadow--except for a slash of light across one eye that reveals his fierce, tortured, inner emotions."
Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 (DCD# MAR083922) is featured in March 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in May of this year. Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 will ship with two covers, one by Jim Steranko for cover A and one by Admira Wijaya and Sunny Gho of Imaginary Friends Studios for cover B. Cover A will ship in 3:1 ratio to cover B.
Hercules: The Thracian Wars #2 (DCD# APR084073) is featured in April 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in June of this year. Hercules: The Thracian Wars #2 will ship with three covers, one by Greg Broadmore of WETA Workshop, one by Admira Wijaya and Sunny Gho of Imaginary Friends Studios, and a limited edition cover by Jim Steranko (DCD# APR084074) that is available as a 1-in-20 retailer incentive.

SCI FI/VIRGIN COMICS GETS NEIGHBORLY WITH THE SUPERHEROES AND SPOUSES OF 'SUPERBIA'
Comic Book series from
SCI FI Channel/Virgin Comics Joint Venture
New York, New York – April 22, 2007 – SCI FI/Virgin Comics, the year-old joint venture between SCI FI Channel and Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Comics, announced today the imprint’s second title, Superbia. Imagine if the members of the Justice League moved to Wisteria Lane with spouses in tow, and you get a hint of what life is like in Woodshire Village, a planned community for superheroes, their spouses, girlfriends and domestic partners. Superbia is created and written by Lisa Klink and Jordan Gorfinkle. It is expected to be released this summer.
“We're thrilled with the success of our ground-breaking partnership with Virgin Comics which is designed to expand our business beyond the television screen with the creation of new multiplatform properties,” said Dave Howe, President of SCI FI. Our first title, ‘The Stranded,’ sold out on stands and is now in development as a television pilot. Superbia is a fun and uniquely original concept that also shows great promise.
"’Superbia’ is the perfect expansion of our partnership with SCI FI, offering a completely different type of story than our first series, The Stranded. The team at SCI FI continue to be a flagship partner for Virgin Comics as we try and bring a new voice to the comic industry," said Sharad Devarajan, CEO of Virgin Comics.
When the newest residents of Woodshire Village, a pair of young newlyweds, moved to the quaint cul-de-sac, they expected life to be strange. But “strange” doesn’t quite cover it. A residential community for superheroes, Woodshire Village boasts affordable housing and easy commutes to all major crime scenes. And when the heroes are away, the spouses play.
One would expect Woodshire Village to be the safest community imaginable however it’s not without its share of secrets, scandal, mystery and murder. With the superheroes off saving the world – their “day job” – it’s up to their partners at home to solve the crimes occurring in their own backyards and preserve the safety of their protected enclave.
With new comic book titles serving as the creative genesis, SCI FI/Virgin Comics are developing fresh properties that integrate the unique spirit and vitality of both brands. Innovative, multi-platform projects are being considered across all mediums from publishing, film and television to digital and gaming.
The venture’s first title, The Stranded (written by Mike Carey) has been a must-read for comic book fans since July. The Stranded collection will be available later this summer at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders and booksellers everywhere.
Utilizing the global creative and synergistic resources that exist at SCI FI Channel, part of NBC Universal, and Virgin Comics, the partnership aims to attract some of the most talented creators from the worlds of comic books, television and movies. SCI FI and Virgin Comics have brought together a multimedia, creative editorial board with members representing comic books, television, movies, digital, gaming, licensing and merchandising.
SCI FI Channel is a television network where "what if" is what's on. SCI FI fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming, as well as a dynamic Web site (www.scifi.com) and magazine. Launched in 1992, and currently in 93 million homes, SCI FI Channel is a network of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies.
Virgin Comics LLC is a character entertainment company creating original stories and epic myths for worldwide audiences. The company was founded in November 2005 by Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Enterprises Ltd., alongside author Deepak Chopra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and entrepreneurs Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman. Virgin is developing new stories with acclaimed filmmakers, actors and musicians including John Woo, Guy Ritchie, Terry Gilliam, Hugh Jackman, Dave Stewart, Jonathan Mostow, Edward Burns, Nicolas Cage, Duran Duran, Sachin Tendulkar and others. Feature films based on Virgin Comics' characters are also in the works, including an animated feature The Secrets of the Seven Sounds, Guy Ritchie's Gamekeeper, with Warner Bros and producer Joel Silver and Virulents with FOX, directed by John Moore (The Omen, Max Payne). Virgin Comics also formed a joint venture with NBC-Universal to create new science fiction properties for graphic novels and television with the SCI FI Channel. The first title in this series, The Stranded, premiered in January 2008 and has already been green-lit for further development as a television pilot. www.VirginComics.com

SCI FI fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming, as well as a dynamic Web site (www.scifi.com

announced upcoming theatrical runs scheduled for New York, Los Angeles
and Seattle of MAIKO HAAAAN!!!, a film directed by Nobuo Mizuta.
From acclaimed screenwriter Kankuro Kudo of PING PONG, Yaji and Kita:
The Midnight Pilgrims and Takashi Miike's Zebraman, MAIKO HAAAAN!!!, is
a slapstick comedy with an energetic twist of manic Japanese humor and a
colorful introduction to the little-seen Maiko (apprentice Geisha)
world. The recent premiere of this film at the Austin Fantastic Fest
2007 was very successful. MAIKO HAAAAN!!! will screen in New York, April
18-24, Seattle May 2-8 and Los Angeles, May 23-29, with a special Press

follow at the end of this release.
MAIKO HAAAAN!!! centers on a Japanese salary man named Kimihiko Onizuka
(Sadawo Abe, from KAMIKAZE GIRLS) who dumps his girlfriend because he
believes he can only fall in love with an apprentice Geisha, otherwise
known as a 'Maiko.’ He decides to pursue his dream of courting a real
Maiko in Kyoto. The lavish and private Maiko Houses become a social
barrier partly caused by a rival who is actually also a millionaire
baseball player (Shinichi Tsutsumi). But Kimihiko remains undaunted and
embarks on the most wild journey using some outlandish premises to gain
entry to the Geisha inner sanctum. Meanwhile, Kimihiko’s girlfriend (Kou
Shibasaki) tries to win him back by leaving Tokyo to become a Maiko herself.
“Imagine a frenzied and comedic version of Memoirs of a Geisha coupled
with Forrest Gump and you have a pretty good idea of the fun in-store in
MAIKO HAAAAN!!!,” says Manami Iboshi, Director, Marketing, VIZ Pictures.
“Aside from the over-the-top plot and comedic performances, the film
also provides a unique and colorful introduction into Japanese culture

VIRGIN COMICS AND STAN LEE’S POW! ENTERTAINMENT
ANNOUNCE NEW COMIC SUPERHERO UNIVERSE
Prolific “Father of the Superhero” and Founder of the Marvel Universe Returns to Comics to Create a New Universe of Superheroes with Virgin Comics!
NEW YORK, NY—April 21, 2008 – Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man and the Marvel Comics Universe of superhero characters, announced today he will be forming a new partnership with Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Comics.
Lee is one of the most influential figures in popular culture and the character entertainment industry, having created characters that generate billions of dollars in sales from comics, films, animation, merchandise and games. In his new partnership with Virgin, Stan Lee will return to comic books as both a writer and editor, to oversee the creation of an entirely new universe of superhero characters.
“What a dream assignment!” enthused the always-ebullient Lee. “I can’t wait to start pitting my newest, most exciting superheroes against comicdom’s most powerful, diabolical super villains and then have the fun of tossing them into far-out, thrill-a-minute adventures to challenge the readers’ imagination! And who better to share in the fun, creating wondrous new worlds without limit, than the incredibly talented and dedicated guys at Virgin Comics!”
"Stan Lee is a cultural icon and we welcome him to his new home, Virgin Comics, for this bold new chapter in his great legacy," said Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Group president and founder.
The new universe will initially be anchored around the exploits of a team of ten superheroes of various backgrounds and origins. As this team evolves, readers will learn that not all of these heroes are what they seem, as infighting, abuses of power and internal struggles will slowly challenge these heroes as they learn the real villains may lurk within themselves.
“As a creator, storyteller and visionary, Stan Lee has created characters that have inspired the imaginations of generations of audiences around the world and spoke to the core of humanity, transcending race, religion and culture” said Virgin Comics’ CEO, Sharad Devarajan. “It is our greatest joy to bring him back to the industry he helped define, and though Stan's creations have already changed the face of entertainment, we are confident that the best is yet to come.”
“Stan Lee is unquestionably one of history's greatest story-tellers. To collaborate with him, and have him guide and nurture artists and writers through Virgin Comics will be one of the legacies of this company. As the head of all things creative at the company, I bow down in reverence!” added Virgin Comics’ Chief Creative Officer, Gotham Chopra.
As a former Editor-in-Chief at Marvel Comics, Lee trained some of the industry’s most influential creative talents under a system called the “Marvel Method.” Though not commonly used in the industry today, Lee’s process enables the writer and artist to sculpt the story together from the ground up in iterative stages, rather than writers just delivering a full script to an artist in more of a segmented fashion. As editor of this new superhero universe at Virgin, Lee intends to once again work with artists in a similar fashion, allowing a new generation of artists from the comic book and video game industries an opportunity to learn and collaborate with Lee.
Gill Champion POW!’s President and COO said “The arrangement with Virgin strengthens our position as a leader in creating new high concept superheroes for today’s fans. Comic Books and other means of new media distribution are a great way to introduce our properties. In Virgin, we have found a partner who understands the importance of Stan’s global brand.”
The new universe will be unveiled in early 2009 and will initially be launched as a series of ten graphic novels linked into a series of online animated shorts. The story is intended to provide a seamless online and offline experience allowing audiences numerous entry points and engagement synergies as they immerse themselves into this universe of heroes.
