SEVEN IMAGE COMICS #1s FOR $1 EACH

Image adds five new titles, reprints two "Image Firsts" editions

Image Comics has added five new titles to its "Image Firsts" line, printings of first issues of the independent publisher's most popular titles that sell for only $1.00. The Image Firsts editions of the phenomenally popular FATALE, SAGA, THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS, THIEF OF THIEVES, and REVIVAL will arrive in stores on December 12. In addition, new printings of the Image Firsts editions of THE WALKING DEAD and CHEW will be in stores on the same day.
FATALE is the newest title in the fruitful collaboration between writer Ed Brubaker and artist Sean Phillips (Criminal, Incognito). Colored by Dave Stewart, FATALE tells the story of Josephine, an immortal femme fatale who unwillingly entrances men and ensnares them in a deadly, decades-long battle with unfathomable evil. Melding noir and horror, FATALE is called an "addictive page-turner" in a starred review of its first collection, DEATH CHASES ME, in Publishers Weekly.

SAGA, an ongoing series by Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Ex Machina) and Fiona Staples, has been the comics break-out hit of the year, garnering near-universal praise and a dedicated fan following. A space-opera-style science fiction adventure, SAGA follows a family on the run — Alana, Marko, and their baby Hazel — as they try to escape the ingrained hostilities that have kept their two worlds at war for centuries and threaten their lives. The first volume is currently number four on the New York Times Paperback Graphic Books Best Seller list. Publishers Weekly's starred review called SAGA a "human story that will leave readers desperately awaiting the next volume."

THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS by Jonathan Hickman (Fantastic Four, Avengers), Nick Pitarra (THE RED WING, also with Hickman), and Jordie Bellaire tackles Cold War-era science like no comic has before — imagining a history where the group of geniuses who brought us the atomic bomb also worked on secret occult experiments. Comics Alliance called the series "pure mad science in comic book form." Its first trade paperback hit stores in September.

THIEF OF THIEVES is a crime series created by Robert Kirkman (THE WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE) and published under his Image Comics imprint, Skybound. Redmond, a world-class thief, wants to leave behind his life of crime and rebuild his family, but it isn't going to be so easy to resist the call of one last caper and escape his past. The first story arc of THIEF OF THIEVES, "I QUIT!", written by Nick Spencer and with art by Shawn Martinbrough and Felix Serrano, was collected in September. A Booklist review says that Redmond's "redemption, headed off at every corner, makes for a classic emotional stake, and the complexity of the plot, often flashing back to the past to explain the present, holds steady interest."

REVIVAL is a completely new take on the undead genre that creators Tim Seeley (HACK/SLASH, WITCHBLADE) and Mike Norton (Battle Pug, IT GIRL AND THE ATOMICS) call "rural noir." When, for one day, the dead rise in a small town in Wisconsin, it changes their quiet world forever. Officer Dana Cypress is tapped to investigate the phenomenon, only to discover it's hit closer to home than she imagined. In a September article, FearNet writer Alison Nastasi wrote, "Revival peers at its readers from the underbelly of America's heartland, embracing the moodiness and isolation of the rural landscape." The collection of the first five issues, YOU'RE AMONG FRIENDS, will be in stores on December 12.

IDW Relaunches G.I. JOE Comic Books!

Publisher Announces New Creative Team and New Era!

[G.I. JOE Relaunch Image]San Diego, CA (November 16, 2012) – IDW is pleased to announce not only a new creative team on their flagship G.I. JOE comic, but also an exciting new era for the beloved heroes based on the iconic Hasbro brand!

Beginning in February with G.I. JOE #1, the anti-terrorist titans will be up against a new threat: publicity! With their formerly secret identities compromised, Duke must lead his squad of Real American Heroes up against the legendarily evil COBRA in the public eye. Written by Fred Van Lente (The Comic Book History of Comics, The Incredible Hercules) with art by Steve Kurth (Ultimate Iron Man, Avengers Vs. X-Men: Consequences), the all-new G.I. JOE is an explosive turning point for those following the Joes ongoing adventures and a perfect jumping-on point for new fans to join the action.

“As a longtime G.I. JOE fan it's very exciting to be able to launch the series in a bold new direction, with a new status quo that develops organically from events in the current ongoing series,” said Van Lente. “In the first arc, Homefront, the G.I. JOE team gets a new (but familiar) commanding officer, a new (and unfamiliar) public role -- and discover that Cobra has brought their war to America in a major way for the first time. We hit the ground running with all-out combat on U.S. soil,” he continued.

This new spin on America’s classic fighting force is also an exciting opportunity for the book’s explosive artist, “It’s G.I. JOE with a superhero spin. This is the G.I. JOE comic I've wanted to make for 10 years and the one I've wanted to read for 20!” said Kurth.

If all of that weren’t enough, fans will also be treated to eye-melting covers by Juan Doe, Steve Kurth, and Jamal Igle, and a special G.I. JOE “comics history” cover by Van Lente’s The Comic Book History of Comics co-conspirator Ryan Dunlavey! This relaunch also comes with a special treat for the G.I. JOE super fans in the form of a suitably bombastic subscription variant cover by legendary artist Arthur Adams!

It’s a very exciting time to be a G.I. JOE fan, and IDW couldn’t be happier to help rid the world of the COBRA menace!

G.I. JOE #1 (FC, 32 pages, $3.99) in stores 2/13/13. Diamond order code: DEC12 0412.

Ugliest Kid Ever Comes to Comic Book Stores

Todd: The Ugliest Kid On Earth Launches January 20

November 15, 2012 – LOS ANGELES Eisner-nominated artist M.K. Perker and award-winning writer Ken Kristensen announced today that their comic book TODD, THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH launches January 16, 2013 via Image Comics. TODD, a collision of comedy, sex, and violence, follows the misadventures of America's most dysfunctional family as they go head-to-severed head with an Oprah-loving ax murderer, a cult-crazy soap opera star, and a neo-Nazi prison gang. The full-color four-issue mini series will hit comic stores January 16th in both digital and print formats.

An ensemble comedy, TODD follows the misadventures of a dysfunctional small-town family caught in extraordinary circumstances.

The heart of the story is son Todd – a good-hearted kid who wears a paper bag on his head because he's so ugly. Or is he? He's never actually seen without the bag. Relentlessly bullied, Todd's efforts to make friends get him imprisoned for a murder he didn't commit. As prison gangs close in on Todd, his fate hinges on inept cops, a tough jailhouse ally, his mother's promiscuity, and a celebrity Scientologist who makes Todd's father a very creepy offer he may not be able to refuse.

"In my career, I've had the pleasure of creating crazy characters, but with Todd we've tapped into the most insane parts of our imaginations,” says Perker. "Political correctness has no place in this book. Our goal is to create a wholly original world that will make you laugh and break your heart, by any means necessary. We make a solemn promise to our reader: no good deed will go unpunished.”

"Though the world and characters in Todd are a hyper-real version of small town America, like all satire it deals with important real-world themes,” says Kristensen. "Todd explores the idea that we all live in a prison of some kind – whether it's schoolyard bullying, a bad marriage, shitty job, oppressive religious doctrines, gang membership, or actual prison walls.”

This creative team previously collaborated on Dark Horse's Escapist anthology and have  several project in the works including  a feature film Playground, with writer-producers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah (Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, Freaks and Geeks TV series).

IDW Presents Vitriol The Hunter
Monster mashup by Billy Martin and Brent Allen

[Vitriol the Hunter #1]San Diego, CA (November 14, 2012) – Coming this February, IDW Publishing is pleased to announce the launch of VITRIOL THE HUNTER, an all-new comic book series co-written by Good Charlotte guitarist Billy Martin and Brent Allen, featuring interior art by Martin.

“This book has travelled everywhere I have on tour over the last few years,” Martin said. “I’ve had a light table and art supplies set up on countless busses and hotel rooms across the world.”

They own the night... they yearn for the day! In this gothic sci-fi adventure, Martin and Allen bring a new grisly horror to life. Set in the fictional city of Basilika in 2127, this six-issue series narrates the journey of Basilika City’s last great hope, Vitriol, as he stands as the only force that can stop Lord Barthus and his heinous vampire regime from overtaking the city.

“Billy is a one of kind. He’s a guy that we hope to be someday,” Sean “Cheeks” Galloway said. “Although he’s had major success with his band Good Charlotte, his love and his drive to draw and to succeed as comic illustrator is mind-boggling and inspiring to us creators to push our limits.”

IRON SKY TEAM GOES TO HOLLYWOOD - AND CROWDSOURCES ALIENS

Los Angeles, CA (November 14, 2012) -- Tero Kaukomaa and Timo Vuorensola, the Finnish filmmakers behind the cult hit “Iron Sky” are partnering with Arnold Rifkin’s Cheyenne Enterprises (“Live Free or Die Hard”) and Ross Richie’s BOOM! Studios (“2 Guns”) to bring the sci-fi action film “Jeremiah Harm” to the screen.  Kaukomaa, Rifkin and Richie will produce with The Corniche Group, and “Iron Sky” director Vuorensola will direct.

“Jeremiah Harm” is a sci-fi action blast about an intergalactic bounty hunter sent on a mission to Earth to hunt down a band of space-faring criminals and the girl they kidnapped. Set in space and New York City, the film aims to hit the chords of 80's & 90's sci-fi action films.

“Jeremiah Harm” is based on a BOOM! Studios graphic novel of the same name written by industry veterans Keith Giffen and Alan Grant. Covers and character designs are by John Mueller featuring interior artwork from Rael Lyra and Rafael Albuquerque.

In addition, the filmmakers have announced that they will use a crowdsourcing model similar to the one used for “Iron Sky.” Through this, fans were able to play a major role in creating the fictional world of “Iron Sky” by contributing visuals and even joining the production in small roles and as extras.

Similarly, fans can go to www.jeremiahharm.com to create their own aliens for the world of “Jeremiah Harm.” By crowdsourcing the filmmakers search up to one million alien designs. The most creative creatures will find their way into the film itself.

“The Iron Sky team has paired with one of the most experienced producers, Arnold Rifkin,” said BOOM! Studios Founder and Chief Executive Officer Ross Richie. “And we are extremely excited about the crowdsourcing model the Finns are bringing to the mix.”

“Our online community was responsible for bringing ‘Iron Sky’ to life and we aim to continue where we left off with a similar model for ‘Jeremiah Harm,’” says producer Tero Kaukomaa.  “This is a unique opportunity for thousands of artists, science geeks and film fans out there to contribute to the making of a new science fiction world, and we look forward to them joining us for the ride,” Kaukomaa says.

Vuorensola, who used crowdsourcing for both of his films “Star Wreck” and “Iron Sky” noted, “I believe crowdsourcing is the way of the future in audience engagement in films – both big and small ones - and it's here to disrupt the way films are experienced. Film is no longer just the product that comes out of the pipeline in the end, but the whole process of filmmaking can be part of the fun as well.” “Also, we are inviting our community to follow our adventure in Hollywood and see what happens to a punch of freaks from Finland when they bum rush the United States” continues Vuorensola. “It should be a lot of fun and very interesting to watch!”

IDW Introduces The New Ghostbusters
This February

New series following IDW’s ongoing Ghostbusters

[Real Ghostbusters Promo Image]San Diego, CA (November 14, 2012) – The Ghostbusters are gone, spirited away by some dastardly demons from another dimension! But spectral shenanigans haven't ceased in the city that never sleeps, meaning a new group will need to step up and don the proton packs. IDW Publishing and Sony Pictures Consumer Products are pleased to announce the launch of an all-new GHOSTBUSTERS ongoing comic series, picking up where the first mega-hit ongoing volume left off. The Ghostbusters creative super-team of Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening (along with series colorist-extraordinaire Luis Antonio Delgado) return to bust out more ectoplasmic excitement in this second ongoing volume.

“We've seen the Ghostbusters deal with a newly minted servant of Gozer, a child-possessing demon, the Spirit of Death, a cross-country road trip and sloppy business rivals,” explained writer Burnham.  “But we've never seen what might happen if something got the jump on them. This story takes a look at what might happen if the Ghostbusters were abducted. The city still needs paranormal exterminators, after all.”

GHOSTBUSTERS #1 marks the exciting beginning of “The New Ghostbusters” storyline, and will include four covers by Schoening, each featuring one of the New Ghostbusters. Additionally, each issue will contain an all-new REAL GHOSTBUSTERS 2-page back-up story written and drawn by Burnham. Kicking off in February, will the New Ghostbusters be able to rescue their predecessors, or will they share the same fate?

“Editing the GHOSTBUSTERS ongoing series for IDW has been the highlight of my editorial career,” said series editor Tom Waltz. “Way back when we started, we prayed we’d be able to finish four issues. And now, sixteen issues in the can and a new ongoing volume ready to rock the world, I’m proud to say GHOSTBUSTERS has proven to be a tremendous success for IDW, and that's completely owed to our awesome fans and the super-powered creative team concocting comic book magic month after month!”

Fans of the series should ask their local comic book shop about the variant Xermanico cover, and the unique variant tribute cover by Schoening, only for loyal subscription box customers!

GHOSTBUSTERS #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in February 2013. Diamond order code: DEC12 0404.
