more BIONICLE!

super-powered heroes called Toa. In Metru Nui, they uncovered the evil
creature Makuta, but would they be too late to stop him from plunging
both the Matoran and the godlike Great Spirit into unending sleep?

Plus BONEYARD and PHAT GIRLS

FOREVER NUTS Classic Screwball Strips presents
HAPPY HOOLIGAN by Frederick Burr Opper
Happy Hooligan is a lovable loser, a well-meaning hobo who ends up in
hilariously bad shape no matter what he tries. One of the 20th
century’s most popular comic strips, HAPPY HOOLIGAN has influenced
everything from Donald Duck to the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoons of
Jules Feiffer, and it’s still delightful today. This second entry in
FOREVER NUTS -- a deluxe, handsomely designed series of books
showcasing early strips so ingeniously nutty that they’re eternally
fresh -- presents the best of Opper’s early, full-color Sunday strips.
Full-color clothbound hardcover, 11” x 7 1/2” , 112 pages, $24.95, ISBN
978-1-56163-542-9

And don’t miss the already published
FOREVER NUTS: The Early Years of MUTT & JEFF by Bud Fisher
One of the longest-lasting and most popular humor strips, MUTT & JEFF
is memorable for its goofiness and irreverence. As the book’s
introduction reveals, only the antic high living of the strip’s
creator, Bud Fisher, outdid his oddball classic’s wildness. "The sharp
pacing and sardonic wit in Fisher's work set the standard for every
newspaper strip that would follow." -- Washington Post
Black and white jacketed hardcover, 11” x 6 1/2”, 192 pages, $24.95,
ISBN 978-1-56163-502-3

BONEYARD #28 (resolicited from March)

infinite number of his sweetie Abbey?

New from AMEROTICA

enough to send your head into a spin. Real women in all their beauty,
lovingly painted for your enjoyment.

SIXTEEN INDIVIDUALS, THREE CENTURIES, ONE FAMILY. IT ALL STARTS HERE!

CROGAN'S VENGEANCE, the first in an ongoing series of adventure graphic
novels spanning continents and centuries as cartoonist Chris Schweizer
climbs through the various branches of the Crogan clan's family tree!
Volume one of THE CROGAN ADVENTURES series introduces us to “Catfoot”
Crogan, an honest sailor who finds himself thrust into a life of piracy!
Crogan never wanted to be a pirate and he never dreamed he'd wind up at
odds with the most dangerous buccaneer ever to sail the Spanish Main!
But there's more to this fight for “Catfoot” than just staying alive,
there's also CROGAN'S VENGEANCE!

“When Chris originally pitched us the idea, he had sent a poster size
copy of the Crogan Family Tree,” said Editor-in-Chief James Lucas Jones.
“Even before we approved the idea we were sitting around arguing about
which story we wanted first. CROGAN'S VENGEANCE is the perfect start to
the series. It's the ultimate adventure story: sword fights, naval
battles, high seas action--it's outstanding!”

“Each book in the series recounts the exploits of different members of
the fictitious Crogan family over the last three hundred years or so,”
said writer/artist Chris Schweizer. “The family tree is filled with
adventurers of every sort and caliber: pirates, legionnaires,
gunfighters, private eyes, flying aces, lion tamers, and a host of other
daring professions.”

Managing Editor Randal Jarrell added, “[Chris] Schweizer's research is
amazing. He spends countless hours making sure every detail is as
accurate as possible. Not to mention the fact that the story is
outstanding. CROGAN'S VENGEANCE is a total throw-back to the classic
swashbuckling adventure novels.”

Chris Schweizer added, “What I wanted to do is hearken back to the
spirit of the great adventure stories that I loved so much as a kid,
books like Treasure Island and the Three Musketeers and King Solomon's
Mines. Those stories are beautifully written, and are captivating to
adult readers, but there's enough action and excitement and character to
make them palatable to children. Too often, kid's books are written for
kids. What I want to see more of, and what I'm trying to do with
CROGAN'S VENGEANCE and THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, is write stories for
adults that are safe for kids to read--elevate them rather than writing
down to them.”

CROGAN'S VENGEANCE! This swashbuckling adventure on the high seas kicks
off THE CROGAN ADVENTURES series this September. 192 pages of scurvy
pirates, tactical naval combat, sword fighting sea dogs, and adventure
at every turn for only $14.95! Don't miss the beginning of this epic
series, as “Catfoot” Crogan defends his honor and family name in
CROGAN'S VENGEANCE!

DDP AND 'MONSTER GARAGE' 'ICE ROAD TRUCKERS' TEAM

REVVING UP 'CHOPPER ZOMBIE'

New OGN to debut in San Diego telling undead motorcycle saga from Original Productions

Chicago, IL. (July 8, 2008) – Spinning out from the creative minds behind the hit TV unscripted reality series Ice Road Truckers and Monster Garage, Devil's Due proudly presents a horror graphic novel unlike anything seen before. This July, DDP and visionary television creator Thom Beers will unleash Chopper Zombie, a fiery blockbuster action tale from writer Todd Livingston (The Black Forest, The Wicked West) and artist Scott Keating (Death and the Man Who Could Not Die, Elk's Run).

"We've been doing series like Biker Build-Off and Monster Garage because I just love choppers. My son Max, who's ten, loves zombies. He told me that choppers and zombies go together," said creator Thom Beers. "So, we gotta' do it! Choppers and zombies. And wait until you see this chopper. Awesome," added Beers.

Beers' company, Original Productions, LLP, developed Chopper Zombie along with Livingston and Keating, who will launch the book at July's San Diego Comic-Con.

Chopper Zombie follows the fate of a brilliant motorcycle builder who becomes the victim of his own success when he refuses to sell his formula for a new super-fuel to a dangerous corporation. When a team of thugs drowns him in his own toxic creation, he rises from the dead with a score to settle.

"I love how the geniuses behind Monster Garage create these amazing works of art right in the garage," said DDP President Josh Blaylock. "Plus, choppers are a staple in my family. This is a book I'll be proud to take home for the reunion."

Already heating up the Internet in webcomic form on ChopperZombie.com, the 144-page graphic novel will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con alongside a custom zombie chopper assembled by the same creators who produced Monster Garage. The Comic-Con premier will also include signings by Chopper Zombie's creative team at the DDP booth and a special panel appearance by Original Productions President Philip Segal.

The action will kick off at DDP's 6:00 p.m. Comic-Con panel on Thursday, July 24. After premiering at San Diego, Chopper Zombie will land in stores July 30.

PRESS RELEASE - WALKING DEAD #50 SELLS OUT WITH HIGHEST EVER PRINT RUN!WALKING DEAD #50 sells out with all-time high orders; second printing on its way!

7 July 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - In less than a day after release, WALKING DEAD #50 has sold out at the distribution level despite a record high print run, but a second printing is on the way.

"Like INVINCIBLE #50, we printed more than we've ever printed before to ensure there were more than enough to meet demand," said series writer Robert Kirkman. "However, this one sold out even faster and the subsequent orders really blew us away. We're going to print even more than usual for the second printing in an effort to make sure everyone gets their copies. With 50 behind us, Charlie and I have our sights set on issue 100, so this sell out and record sales on our most recent issue are excellent signs of the health of this series and how easy it will be to meet our new goal... and exceed it!"

WALKING DEAD #50 marked a major turning point in the series, with a long-time character taking center stage after a devastating attack on the prison base. Now a new era begins with our cast once again on the road. To celebrate the sell out, the second printing will feature an all-new cover by series artist Charlie Adlard.
WALKING DEAD #50 2nd printing, a 32-page black and white comic book for $2.99, is due in stores this July.

myebook.com: 'Perfect comic-timing as historic new chapter in book publishing opens.'

myebook.com (beta), a newly launched, web-based, ebook community site gives everyone the tools to create book content and get it out there for free. And straight away it's proving to be a hit with comic book publishers.

Every aspect of publishing your content is covered, from creating, to sharing, to reading, in by far the slickest and simplest way seen so far.

Simon Whitehall, head of myebook communications, commented: "Forget web 2.0, we've just turned the page to chapter 3.0. With myebook.com, we've made it possible for anyone to upload, or create from scratch, beautifully simple or adventurously complex page designs and covers online, in no time. What's more, you can publish your book with a single button and release it to the world before the (virtual) ink's dry! You can create as many publications as you want. And it's all free."

"Comic book creators love it. The system is a great environment to create and publish comics and graphic novels. The power and richness of the design features are out of this world, certainly by web standards."

Readers may well feel it all sounds a bit too good to be true. So where's the small print?

"There isn't any. The only limitation is your imagination. An over-used cliché but never more appropriate than here. Create, publish and share. We simply want you to 'get it out there." he exclaimed, reiterating the strap line given to the project.

But does that mean you need to have the intellect of The Dark Knight Detective to figure it all out?

"On the contrary, the whole service has been designed so that any mere mortal can use it. No superhuman programming skills required! That's the cool part about it."

The team behind it all feels that the service has undoubtedly stolen a march on the rest of the publishing industry. Whilst judging a book by it's cover is never advised, spending a few minutes at the site will convince even the most hardened bookworm.

"Like the digital music revolution, myebook aims to give back total control to the content creator and the reader. It provides a way to publish what they want and connect with their audience directly. It's incredible."

He added. "We're years ahead of the market for sure. You simply can't draw-up such a rich, yet simple set of services like this and get it out in a week. It takes years. Reading between the lines, we think we've got it right."

And before the traditionalists take to the altar, fear not. The company is not trumpeting the death of print. No, they're quick to point out that whilst print itself is great, it's the advantages of the traditional publishing and distribution model that are fading fast. Currently the myebook team is exploring options for letting users order hard copy editions of its content.

July 9th, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) - BOOM! Studios is proud to announce the recent appointment of Matt Gagnon to the position of Managing Editor. Gagnon brings to BOOM! a wealth of versatility and experience working in the comic book industry, essential skills as BOOM! ushers in its next phase of growth.

Brought on board March 1st to oversee the FARSCAPE comic book line, Gagnon was quickly promoted to Managing Editor, overseeing the production of all BOOM! titles. Having shown his passion and excellent managerial skills right from the start, Gagnon will be working directly under the supervision and mentorship of Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid.

"Matt Gagnon is like the Michael Clayton of comics. At his previous job at Meltdown, I saw him in action, making things happen and fixing problems. At BOOM! he's done the same thing, to the point where I probably ought to start fearing for my job," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid.

"Well, technically Michael Clayton would never approve of a press release," Managing Editor Matt Gagnon remarked after reading a draft of this of his announcement, though eventually Gagnon conceded to the will of BOOM!'s Marketing and Sales Director, Chip Mosher.

Previous to BOOM!, Matt spent four years as the buyer and purchasing manager of Meltdown Comics, Los Angeles' preeminent direct-market retailer. While there, Matt also oversaw many of that stores successful events, including spearheading the Y: THE LAST PARTY in conjunction with MySpace Comic Books and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

While working at Meltdown, Matt also found the time to serve as co-editor of the latest volume of the critically acclaimed comic book anthology MEATHAUS, which includes work by James Jean, Tomer Hanuka, Farel Dalrymple, Ross Campbell, and many others. Matt has also worked as a writer/consultant for Gain Enterprises, in conjunction MTV New Media.

The announcement of Mr. Gagnon as Managing Editor follows last year's appointment of Mark Waid as Editor-in-Chief and Chip Mosher as Marketing and Sales Director, as well as the recent appointment of Ian Brill as Games Workshop Editor.

PIRATES RULE IN BOOM!'S NEWEST MINI-SERIES GALVESTON
SIX-GUNS VS. CUTLASSES
AS PIRATES AND COWBOYS COLLIDE IN THE OLD WEST

July 8th, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) - BOOM! Studios announces its latest mini-series, GALVESTON, a swashbuckling historical epic based on true events where cowboys and pirates collide, written by Tom Peyer and Mark Rahner and featuring interior art by Greg Scott.

Series editor Mark Waid said, "When publisher Ross Richie told me that the famous French pirate Jean Lefitte--true story--lived his later years in Galveston, Texas with his best friend, frontier legend Jim Bowie, inventor of the Bowie knife, I was gobsmacked. First off, I honestly thought that Jean Lafitte was the pirate who fought Cap'n Crunch. Second, the notion of Galveston being a Deadwood-type town run by a mad pirate had me screaming, 'put this on the schedule right away! Why am I not already reading this book?' "

Focusing on these early exploits of Jean Lafitte and Jim Bowie, GALVESTON is an over-the-top thriller of blood, guts and revenge. Utilizing an extensive knowledge of the time period, Peyer and Rahner take history and turn it into an action-packed adventure comic that fans are guaranteed to love.

"It's a cowboys-and-pirates fable about the famous privateer Jean LaFitte and Texas icon Jim Bowie," said Peyer. "It's six-guns vs. cutlasses, heroic rescues and hair's-breadth escapes, seasoned with glimpses into the real personalities of these two legends and omens of their futures."

"Bowie could throw down," said Rahner. "This is the dude who once had a gun broken over his head, then got run through with a sword cane, and while the attacker was planting a foot on his chest to pull out the sword, Bowie gutted him with his legendary big knife. Then he got shot and stabbed again while the sword was still hanging out of him. This won't be any PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN."

GALVESTON #1 cover A and cover B features art by Jeffrey Spokes, with a Diamond item order codes JUL083760 for cover A and JUL083761 for cover B.

Radical announces 2nd printing of Hercules #1 and Caliber #1

July 7th, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Released on April 30th to critical acclaim, Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 and Caliber: First Canon of Justice #1 has been a big hit with both retailers and fans. Despite efforts to satisfy the public with extra copies of Hercules and Caliber printed in case of a sellout, the demand for more continues to grow. Because of this, Radical Publishing is pleased to announce that a 2nd printing is on the way for both titles.

Barry Levine, Radical Publishing President and Publisher notes, “In the past week while promoting our upcoming issue #3’s of Hercules and Caliber, we have received numerous calls and emails from both fans and retailers alike, wondering if we are going to do a second print on our issue #1’s. We’ve heard the message loud and clear and are pleased to say that a second printing of both titles are underway. Being a new publisher, I’m sure many retailers didn’t expect the kind of sales our titles would produce. As a result, a lot of people underordered and were unable to place reorders due to the overwhelming demand. These limited quantity second printings will enable fans who have missed out the first time around to see how both these epics began.”

Both Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 2nd print and Caliber: First Canon of Justice #1 2nd print will retail for $2.99 and are available to order from Diamond Comics Distributors. Each cover has its own Diamond order code to provide retailers the choice in the amounts of each cover variant they want. This will be an option for all books published by Radical, starting in the August 2008 issue of Diamond’s Previews.

BOOM! STUDIO'S PULP TALES ANTHOLOGY TO BENEFIT ARTIST JOSH MEDORS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER

Featuring work by Steve Niles, Ben Templesmith , B. Clay Moore, Josh Fialkov, Kody Chamblerlain, Chris Samnee, Seth Peck, Tony Fleecs, Andy B., Josh Medors and many more!

July 7th, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) - Help BOOM! Studios support comic book artist Josh Medors, recently diagnosed with cancer, by ordering the benefit comic book PULP TALES. This two-fisted one-shot features all-new, action-packed stories by horror master Steve Niles, P.U.N.K.S' Josh Fialkov and Kody Chamberlain, '76's B. Clay Moore & Seth Peck, CAPOTE IN KANSAS' Chris Samnee, IN MY LIFETIME's Tony Fleecs and features covers by Ben Templesmith and Josh Medors. All proceeds from the sale of PULP TALES will go to Josh Medors and his family.

A small advance print run of PULP TALES, which is sure to sell out, will be available at the BOOM! Studios booth (#2543) during San Diego Comic-Con 2008.

PULP TALES features two covers, one with cover art by Ben Templesmith that will retail for $3.99 (JUL083759) and a special "donation cover" with cover art by Josh Medors (JUL083758) that will retail for $9.99, giving consumers two price options for helping Josh Medors in his fight against cancer.

Steve Niles and Sarah Wilkinson contribute LIMBO'S ASSASSIN, a prose story written by Niles, featuring art by Wilkinson. In this macabre tale of crime and punishment, a hired killer comes face-to-face with his victims and finds that perhaps he wasn't as evil as he thought he was.

B. Clay Moore and Seth Peck contribute the debut of BLUEJACKET, illustrated by Chris Samnee. Former 1930s crimefighter-now-corporate-mogul Bluejacket and his supporting crew, the Men of Adventure, tangle with an Aztec were-jaguar. But he's not half as bad as Bluejacket's board of directors!

Created by Josh Fialkov and Andy B, NEWT LAWMAN AND THE SECRETS OF THE VALLEY is the story of the rootin'ist, tootin'ist cowboy in all of the Southwest, Newt Lawman, who's found himself and his Indian pal Running Bear in a heap of trouble. They must square off against the protectors of the Golden Ox or the evil Hayes Rutherford will kill Newt's ladylove, Maggie Mae!

THE CRESCENT FLAME!, written by Kody Chamberlain, focuses on a down-on-his-luck would-be photojournalist who may very well have snapped the photo that makes his career. That is, until the subject of the photo, the mysterious Crescent Flame, shows up with an alternate proposition.

Tony Fleecs' CRASH WINTERS: PALOOKA P.I. features one-time champion brawler Marion (Crash) Winters, who has set up shop as Los Angeles' punchiest gumshoe. When his movie-star client takes a dive off the roof of her hotel, will Crash be able to wrap her case up? Or will he once again find himself down for the count?

"When I was approached by BOOM! Studios to shepherd this project, I signed on right away" said Dan Taylor, PULP TALES acting editor. "Having known Josh for a handful of years, and knowing what a good person he is beyond just his artistic talents, it wasn't hard to assemble a cast of creators to contribute to the cause. I appreciate the time and effort that the artists and writers put forth on this project to help Josh out - thanks again."

"Comics are tricky when it comes to real issues like cancer," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid. "This is an industry that deals with men and women who are larger than life, who by all rights could cure cancer in an afternoon. But those heroes can't do that, even in a world of limitless possibility - they are powerless because we are. Using PULP TALES to raise money for Josh Medors proves just how powerful comics and their fans can be in the face of adversity, and the important thing here is showing Josh and his family how true that is."

PULP TALES is edited by Dan Taylor and designed by Ed Dukeshire, who both donated their time to this book.

"The Minions of Ka" to release several high-profile projects in conjunction with new Graphic Novel.

MANHATTAN, NY – July 7, 2008 – "The Minions of Ka" hits the screen with a teaser/trailer announcing the highly anticipated multi-media graphic novel project.

"The Minions of Ka" is a new graphic novel from creators Dave Wilbur, Michael Furno and Michael Ahearn in conjunction with Silent Devil Productions and Arcana Studios. The 60 second promotional trailer is currently available for view on YouTube and AlphaZombie.com.

The trailer is voiced by Academy Award nominee Danny Aiello and features clips from the highly anticipated 128 page book, which will debut at Dragon*Con on August 29th, 2008 and hit store shelves shortly after that. "This is a very exciting, innovative project," said co-creator/writer Michael Furno, "I think people are going to be very surprised when they see the things we're doing. It's a fresh new look on zombies. We create a whole new world by challenging a lot of preconceived notions. I think people are going to be blown away."

There will also be the release of an on-line game called "Project Outbreak: Track the Strain", where players can create and build their very own zombie hoard.

Sequart.org is excited to announce that a 2nd edition of its first book, GRANT MORRISON: THE EARLY YEARS, is now available exclusively through PREVIEWS (order code JUL084473).

If you missed out last year, now is the perfect time to buy THE EARLY YEARS because this 2ND EDITION is revised and includes a newly-added essay about Morrison's very first story for 2000AD.

Grant Morrison redefined comics in the late 1980s and early 1990s from his trailblazing creation of ZENITH, through his metatextual innovations on ANIMAL MAN, to his Dadaist super-heroics in DOOM PATROL. Along the way, he explored the Batman mythos with his multilayered masterpiece ARKHAM ASYLUM and the literary GOTHIC storyline.

GRANT MORRISON: THE EARLY YEARS (softcover, 6x9 in, 280 pgs, B&W) examines these five Morrison works in detail. Using plain language, Callahan opens up Morrison's sometimes difficult texts and expands the reader's appreciation of their significance, creating a study accessible to both Grant Morrison aficionados and those new to his work. An extended exclusive interview with Morrison on his early career rounds out the volume.

According to the book's author, Timothy Callahan, "the book explores the unifying themes of Morrison's early work, providing a close analysis of stylistic and structural techniques."

"In its limited release, the book has sold well online and at comic book conventions," says Publisher Julian Darius. "Callahan [also a ComicBookResources.com reviewer] has been repeatedly praised in reviews of the book, and cover artist Kevin Colden has been in the news for receiving – and declining – a Xeric grant. We're very excited about having this book in PREVIEWS and comic book stores for the first time."

The book is the first in a line of critical books from Sequart Research & Literacy Organization, a non-profit devoted to the study and promotion of comic books as a legitimate art.

MAKE SURE TO TELL YOUR LOCAL COMIC STORE OWNER TO ORDER ONE FOR YOU! (Once again, our book's PREVIEWS order code is JUL084473.)
