Heya,
So, that big project I've been working on? It's finally been announced! Here's the scoop:

--
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 27, 2008 -- EQAL, the social entertainment company founded by the creators of lonelygirl15, today announced details of the next online serial drama in the LG15 universe, titled "LG15: The Resistance." The new US-based series will share the mythology behind the previous series "lonelygirl15" and UK-based "KateModern."

Beginning with its online premiere on Saturday, Sept. 20, season one of "LG15: The Resistance" will run for 12 weeks. Daily posts by the characters on LG15.com will consist of short videos and other multi-media content such as text blogs and photos, concluding with a weekly episode posted every Saturday that will include all of the week's dramatic developments. An exclusive sneak preview of the first episode of the new series will be shown at the New York Television Festival Digital Day at 7 p.m. ET on Sept. 16.

With 'LG15: The Resistance,' we are taking social entertainment to the next level. By incorporating the lessons learned about writing for the Internet and audience interaction from our experience with 'lonelygirl15' and 'KateModern,' 'LG15: The Resistance' is poised to be the most engaging experience in online drama to date

In order to allow the audience to better engage with the new show and interact with each other, EQAL also announced plans to completely redesign the LG15.com website and provide its devoted community with new and expanded social features. Audience participation and interactivity throughout the series will be essential to advancing the plot, with the community called upon to make suggestions and solve puzzles for the on-screen characters. The enhanced site will allow fans to do that through the creation their own profile pages and participation in live chats with characters from the show. Other community features include discussion forums, comment boards, character blogs, groups, and more. Future enhancements will add photo and video sharing to the LG15.com social network.

In addition to the new LG15.com, video episodes from the first season of "LG15: The Resistance" will be available on popular social networks and online video sharing sites including MySpaceTV, imeem, Veoh, YouTube™ and Hulu. As the season progresses, all video content, including daily video and weekly show episodes, will premiere jointly on LG15.com and LG15 branded video profile pages on the various partner properties. Customized promotions with each partner will vary, but will involve feature homepage placement over the course of the season to drive traffic and entice new fans.

"With 'LG15: The Resistance,' we are taking social entertainment to the next level. By incorporating the lessons learned about writing for the Internet and audience interaction from our experience with 'lonelygirl15' and 'KateModern,' 'LG15: The Resistance' is poised to be the most engaging experience in online drama to date," said Miles Beckett, CEO, EQAL. "We're all but exploding the wall between creators and viewers, letting fans contribute directly to the unfolding narrative in a way never before attempted in scripted entertainment."

The story told in "LG15: The Resistance" will continue to operate in the LG15 universe with its shared mythology and select overlapping characters from lonelygirl15, including leading characters "Jonas," played by Jackson Davis, and "Sarah" played by Alexandra Dreyfus. As with the previous series, "LG15: The Resistance" will revolve around The Order, an evil secret society that has discovered the existence of very rare girls that carry a special blood trait. The Resistance is now the only hope in battling The Order, but they must overcome great obstacles to do so. The new series will combine action, romance and intrigue in the spirit of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "National Treasure." While this back-story will be familiar to long-time fans, "LG15: The Resistance" has been developed to ensure the plot will be extremely accessible to new fans as well. "LG15: The Resistance" is executive produced by Miles Beckett, Greg Goodfried and Amanda Goodfried, the producers of lonelygirl15
and
KateModern. Joshua Fialkov, creator of the graphic novels "Elks Run" and "Punks," joins as head writer.

"EQAL has pioneered some of the most successful serial dramas in the Internet age, and we're confident they've got another hit in store with, 'LG15: The Resistance.' We're thrilled to bring their ground-breaking new show to over 27 million users on imeem and equally excited to have LG15 fans connecting around imeem music and video playlists," said Jeff Reine, director of business development at imeem.

As with the previous series, brand sponsors will be tightly integrated into "LG15: The Resistance" and seamlessly woven throughout the narrative. EQAL is currently seeking brands that are interested in new forms of product placement and cutting edge interactivity on the Internet.

IDW INTRODUCES NEW CLASSICS OF THE FANTASTIC SERIES,

WITH NIGHTWINGS

(San Diego, August 27) IDW Publishing sets its gaze skyward with Nightwings, the first installment of the company’s new science fiction series, New Classics of the Fantastic.

In the Hugo Award-winning Nightwings, Earth’s long descent into hopelessness and despair created a civilization divided into guilds. One such guild is the Watchers, charged with keeping vigilant watch over the heavens against the alien invasion prophecy has long expected. But in a moment of weakness one skeptical Watcher is distracted… and the attack begins!

Spared from destruction during the fateful invasion, the Watcher soon travels from the ancient city of “Roum” to find shelter in the other once-great cities of man. Along the way he uncovers the invader’s true intentions, how they are related to the downfall of mankind, and that release from these captors will come in the most unexpected form of all.

Series editor Clifford Meth says, “New Classics of the Fantastic will be an essential science fiction library. It will bring back Hugo and Nebula Award winning books that have fallen out of print. Sadly, most award-winning genre titles don't last long on the shelves—that's a function of space, not quality. So IDW has assembled a list of extraordinary books—titles that represent the very best selections of the very best authors in science fiction. Robert Silverberg's Nightwings is a genuine must-read for science-fiction fans.”

Nightwings features an introduction from author Robert Silverberg, as well as a gorgeous cover by acclaimed painter Michael Parkes, and is edited by Clifford Meth.

ROGER CORMAN AND BLUEWATER MAKE A SPLASH IN ‘09

Creative comic book studio joins with legendary filmmaker for independent publishing

BELLINGHAM, WASH. (August 26 , 2008) -- Bluewater Productions and Roger Corman are teaming up to excite a new generation of genre fans as the independent comic publisher and legendary genre filmmaker plan to readapt and re-imagine some of Corman's popular work.

Starting in 2009, several of Corman's movies will be "given the Bluewater treatment" under the title "Roger Corman Presents." Some of the first properties being produced include "Death Stalker," "The Barbarian Queen," "Humanoids From The Deep" and a re-franchising of Corman's super heroine "Black Scorpion" which previously found success as two made-for-cable movies on Showtime and a 22 one hour episodes on the Sci Fi Channel.

Corman said: “Comic books have given me so much over the years that it’s time I gave something back to the medium.”

As Bluewater now is working with both Corman and the Vincent Price estate, it is certain that several of the horror classics based on the Edgar Allen Poe stories will also be produced in comic form in the near future.

"Roger Corman's body of work is so visual and visceral," said Bluewater's president Darren G. Davis. "What will make these titles stand out is that Mr. Corman will be personally involved in their development," Davis said. This is not just another licensing gimmick, but an outlet to rediscover his creative genius and a chance for readers to once again be pleasantly frightened. I still get the willies from the 'Masque of the Red Death'."

And just like DVDs that put extras and Easter eggs into their presentations, each Bluewater-Corman book with be full of fan favorite extras like interviews, behind the scene pictures and reminiscing about the titles from Corman himself.

Some of the creative team for the franchise will include writers and artists Paul Salamoff, Shon Bury, Neal Bailey, Ed Brisson & Daniel Cuchacovich -- and television writer/producer Craig J. Nevius (THE FANTASTIC FOUR) who co-created “Black Scorpion” with Corman and is overseeing the Bluewater/Corman collaboration.

Nevius said: “Roger and I had always intended to create a comic book franchise based on the ‘Black Scorpion’ movies and TV series. And with classic costumed superheroes back in vogue thanks to the success of the ‘Batman’ and ‘Iron Man’ movies, the time seemed right to bring back our costumed superheroine.”

“Black Scorpion” was originally played by Joan Severence before Michelle Lintel took over the role for the television series. Bluewater has struck a deal with Lintel to use her image as the comic book basis for the title character.

ABOUT BLUEWATER:

Bluewater Productions, Inc. is one if the top independent production studios of comic, young adult books and graphic novel titles. In the tradition of great storytelling and cutting edge art, Bluewater storms onto the comic book and graphic novel scene. With more titles than ever, including smash hits such as the 10th MUSE, THE LEGEND OF ISIS, and RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS. Bluewater is poised to continue to produce engaging stories with art from both the top names in the industry alongside with up and coming stars.

ABOUT ROGER CORMAN:

The saga of independent filmmaker Roger Corman ranks as one of the most amazing motion picture success stories. Having produced more than 550 films and directed fifty others, his influence on American film goes far beyond his own energetic, creative low-budget movies. He is one of Hollywood's most gifted and masterful film makers. Noted for his keen ability to spot young talents, his most lasting legacy will undoubtedly be the legion of producers, directors, writers, and actors he has fostered, among them: Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, Diane Ladd, Talia Shire, Peter Bogdanovich, Robert DeNiro, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Charles Bronson, Joe Dante, Jonathan Demme, Gale Ann Hurd, and James Cameron.
IDW RELEASES BEN TEMPLESMITH’S ART OF WORMWOOD COLLECTION

SEE THE ART, READ THE STORY, RIDE THE WORM

(San Diego, August 25) IDW Publishing will release Ben Templesmith’s Art of Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse on August 27. The book collects all the notable art plus a large amount of sketches, unpublished ideas and never-before-seen paintings from his semi-regular, off-beat serial Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse. It includes an original Wormwood short story.

Templesmith’s visual approach, which has been described as “daring, horrific, and sometimes just plain perverse” has gained a cult following for his work in graphic novels including 30 Days of Night, Fell, Wormwood,Gentleman Corpse and more recently Welcome to Hoxford. He has said he is influenced by the science-fantasy cosmos of H.P. Lovecraft's Old Ones and the work of H.R. Giger. Templesmith's black sense of humor, his delicate yet vigorous style, his nuanced but bold use of color, and knack for finding just the right detail to make a panel or page come to life have given Wormwood a huge fan base.

“Wormwood is really just me having fun and trying to throw in as many disgusting perversions of my old childhood influences. I call it my riff on Doctor Who, if it were more demonologically oriented and written for very juvenile adults with a sick sense of humor”, says Templesmith.

My darlings:

I’ve proposed a panel for 2009’s SXSW Interactive, a discussion called Comics on Handhelds: Taking Webcomics Mobile. Last year’s SXSWi was incredible, and for this year I’m assembling a very interesting group of comics' reimagineers/futurists for a panel who’ve all had a part in bringing digital comics’ culture in the pockets of Muggles everywhere.

The proposal is live on the SXSW Panel Picker site now, and it would mean alot to me if you could vote-up/comment my panel and keep comics’ evolution part of the conversation at SXSW this year. It really only takes a minute to do.

Panel link here: http://w3t.org/u/7z7g
Register for free account here: http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/users/register

Voting ends this Friday, August 29th; my humble thanks to you for helping out.

Here is the info on mIke Diana
Mike Diana, the controversial creator of the 'zine "Boiled Angel," is the first American artist ever to be convicted of obscenity. His work contains graphic and often shocking depictions of society's most serious problems: child abuse, date rape, and religious corruption.

Diana was first charged with obscenity after an undercover Florida detective posed as an artist to obtain copies of "Boiled Angel." In a week-long case in March of 1994, a Florida jury found Diana guilty of publishing, distributing, and advertising obscene material. They agreed that his work "lacked serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value" because it did not compare to such works as "The Grapes of Wrath" or Picasso's "Guernica."

Diana was sentenced to a three-year probation, during which time his residence is subject to inspection, without warning or warrant, to determine if he is in possession of, or is creating obscene material. He is to have no contact with children under 18, undergo psychological testing, enroll in a journalistic ethics course, pay a $3,000 fine, and perform 1,248 hours of community service.

Two appeals to the State Appellate Court failed to have the case reversed or reheard in Florida. During the first appeal process, the prosecution used evidence gathered after the original trial, a move usually considered unethical. The courts refused to accept an amicus brief submitted by the ACLU, and responded 'without comment' to the second and final appeal.

Two of the three counts under which Diana was convicted were endorsed by the Appellate Court. The only count that was judged incorrect was the conviction for "advertising obscene material." The Court agreed with Diana's attorney that it was improper to convict someone for advertising material that had not been created yet, since the artist could not, at the time, know the nature or character of the work.

In May of 1997 the CBLDF and the ACLU submitted a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to hear Diana's case. George Rehdart, a well-known First Amendment attorney, assisted in preparing the petition. The Supreme Court denied the petition "without comment," thereby ending all possibility of overturning Diana's conviction.

Mike Diana is currently living in New York, where he was granted permission to serve out his sentence. He is fulfilling his community service obligation through volunteer work for the CBLDF.

PRESS RELEASE - SHADOWLINE HATES GALAXY GIRL THIS NOVEMBER!Image Comics Shadowline launches I HATE GALAXY GIRL this November!

25 August 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - Every underdog gets their day this November as newcomer Kat Cahill and BRAT-HALLA's Seth Damoose take a stand in Shadowline's newest three issue superhero mini-series, I HATE GALAXY GIRL!

"While I HATE GALAXY GIRL was originally Kat Cahill's runner-up for our 'Who Wants To Create a Super Heroine Contest', Shadowline Editor Kris Simon and I loved the concept so much we had to put it on the fast track to becoming its own series," Shadowline Publisher Jim Valentino said. "When Kat saw Seth's upcoming work on BRAT-HALLA, she knew he was the perfect artist to capture the mood she was going for. We really can't help but agree!"

Based on skill alone, Renee Tempete should be the new Galaxy Girl. Instead, a buxom blonde with no actual powers holds the title. As events unfold, Renee struggles not only against monsters, criminals and giant robots, but also a society that desperately wants to keep her in her place.

Cahill added, "The core of I HATE GALAXY GIRL is Renee finding the self-confidence to achieve her dreams despite constantly being told to give up. The experience is something I think just about anybody can relate to while the overall story is still a heck of a lot of fun!"

I HATE GALAXY GIRL #1 (SEP082263), a 32-page full color mini-series for $3.50, will be available in-stores November 12th.

Kyle Baker's new art book should be shelved in the self-help, self-improvement, new age-y section of the bookstore where folks try to find some direction in life. Kyle Baker has a message for THE PEOPLE.

And what is Kyle Baker's message? Learn How To Draw, Stupid! No,wait, it's: Learn How To Draw Stupid. No comma after the word "draw", heh.

That's right. Draw stupid, stupid, and you'll feel better. You'll laugh. You'll learn how to draw and in the process learn how to live free of bitterness, cynicism and indifference. Baker basically says that if you can draw a funny cartoon with a pen and a piece of paper that you will make someone laugh and by doing so unlock a secret code that gains you access to higher levels of consciousness.

Just who is Kyle Baker? Basically, he was a teenage cartooning wonder in the mid 80's who worked his way through the infamous bullpens of both DC and Marvel Comics. He paid his dues and then went on to create two of the most groundbreaking graphic ovels of the late '80s: The Cowboy Wally Show and the still remarkable Why I Hate Saturn. After a stint in Hollywood doing Hollywood stuff he returned to comics in the mid '90's with a vengeance and hasn't let up on the pace, producing an average of two books a year for a decade. Presently, he has every demographic covered with a war comic, a kid's comic, a comic about the Nat Turner-led U.S. slave rebellion, and a How To Draw book all crowding the same New Releases shelf.

He’s prolific, and he’s good—a rare combination. His comics are straightforward. They’re realistic when they need to be and funny when they have to be. Kyle Baker can shift stylistic gears like no one else in the business. Maybe I was just high, but I laughed through the entirety of How To Draw Stupid;, every page is, well, funny. It just might be Baker's best book to date, his voice is so well represented. Structured like most "How to Draw" books yet devoid of the typical step-by-step, rote instruction that typifies the genre, this book serves more as an advertisement for Baker, his oeuvre, and his philosophy.

Baker completes this "advertisement for myself" by proudly displaying all the covers of his books from every stage of his professional cartooning career in the middle of the book. He writes honestly about how he didn't want to lose himself, his vision and creativity by working for some big animation studio or by continuing to slave away for the big comics publishers. He somehow literally draws a picture of his life, and it's quite refreshing: "There are some professional cartoonists who hate their jobs. [...] Why on earth are they working on cartoons they hate? It couldn't possibly be for the money. If I were going to do a job I hated just because I needed the money, I'd sell weapons. It pays better than cartooning."

Baker's "Yes! You can!" philosophy and the way he presents it in 14 clear and concise chapters is broad and expansive and really pulls the reader in. I couldn't put this book down. Reading it feels like you’re really getting the inside dope. He explains how to draw simply and how to create iconic images and characters and how get inside their heads "even when there's nothing there!" His technical specificity is minimal but that is his point. "It's just a freakin' cartoon! It's not the Sistine Chapel!" He has very real helpful advice, but he knows that he doesn't need to make a How-To book like everyone else. Baker admonishes and encourages the reader to just try it, to just pick up a pen and make something happen, what have you got to lose? "Zero start-up cost!"

And after years of flying just a bit underneath the pop culture radar, Baker's comics like Nat Turner are attracting a very diverse audience and he, as a professional, is growing beyond the confines of the comics industry. He seems poised to unleash his positive attitude towards life on to the masses, and when The Bakers (his comic-book-ification of his family life) materializes as a Fox TV show, he might really end up creating a new template for the modern cartoonist. So I'm thinking as I read his How to Draw: maybe this guy knows what he's talking about.

The thing that strikes me the most about Baker's approach is his range. The guy can draw "realistically" and also demonstrates how exaggeration is the key to all characterization. Meaning his characters act. He draws cartoons; it's visuals first, words later, like Charlie Chaplin, like Jack Kirby. It's not War and Peace. And by reminding us of this page after page through his own very successful (Scott McCloud approved!) stories, he truly does instruct the reader/student on what does work, how to draw stupid, how to make something funny. Baker's example, his sense of humor and killer timing really inspires one to act, to create, to find one's way.

[Kyle Baker's How To Draw Stupid And Other Essentials Of Cartooning is published by Watson-Guptill and costs $16.95.]

[Frank Santoro is a cartoonist the author of Storyville, which was reissued this year by Picturebox. He lives in Pittsburgh.] intensity. Baker tells Kurt how he ended up telling this story.

MGM OPTIONS UK ONLINE GRAPHIC NOVEL SENSATION 'THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE'

FOR SERIES TELEVISION DEVELOPMENT

LOS ANGELES, CA August 19, 2008 -- Seizing an opportunity to leverage the current wave of popularity and notoriety surrounding the new digital graphic novel sensation, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE, MGM Domestic Television Distribution has acquired an option to develop the Factory Publishing property as a possible television series. The announcement was made today by Chris Ottinger, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Television, MGM.

"THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is an exciting digital graphic novel that's creating quite a sensation abroad," said Ottinger in announcing MGM's option of the property. "We see this as a great concept that will make an exciting series for worldwide audiences.”

"MGM is a great place for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE," said Howard Webster, creator, producer and director of the project for Factory Publishing in association with Triumph Motorcycles. "There has never been a black British action hero before and what appealed to me was that MGM understood this from the outset. JONAS MOORE is sophisticated, educated, tough and uber-cool. He represents the next generation of intelligent action heroes of international sci-fi drama."

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE was written, produced and directed by Howard Webster. Ruth Vitale of The Film Collective brought the project to MGM. She was instrumental in developing the television pitch with Webster. She is attached as an Executive Producer to the project, having worked with Webster for the last four years on Factory Magazine.

Nominated at MIPCOM 2007's Mobile and Internet TV Awards in the Best Short Form Mobile and Internet Drama category and an official honoree at this year's Webby Awards, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is a trilogy of second-generation graphic novels, which live online and are specifically designed for iPod and PC download.

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is set in a time where the British Empire has never ended and America is just one of thousands of virtual worlds hosted on a vast global game network. When Jonas Moore (portrayed online by British film and TV star Colin Salmon -- Resident Evil, Die Another Day, Prime Suspect and the upcoming Punisher: War Zone, and Blood: The Last Vampire), a character personally created by the network's founder, becomes self-aware he is tagged by the network as a virus and goes on the run. As he moves from one artificial game world to the next, his knowledge of the games and the real-world gamers spreads like a virus to the other game characters, freaks, creatures and monsters who live as slaves within the network - precipitating a revolution and fight for freedom against the murderously addicted real-world gamers. Worlds Apart lead singer Steve Hart wrote the score for the production and also stars in the online version.

Combining comic book illustration with 3D animation, live action photography, newsreel archival footage, and an original music score, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE marks a revolution in online branded entertainment and user-generated content. Pushing the boundaries of the graphic novel genre, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE engages fans by inviting them to become part of the journey by downloading the JONAS MOORE digital elements and animating their own stories or creating comic book adventures for JONAS MOORE. Garage bands and musicians all over the world are also invited to strip out the music and send in their own soundtracks. The best fan-generated comic books, animations and soundtracks will be posted at www.jonasmoore.com when the online digital comic book series goes live later this year.

Previews for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE digital graphic novel can be seen at www.jonasmoore.com and www.factory-publishing.com.

PRESS RELEASE - FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA!Former Presidential candidate Savage Dragon puts in his endorsement for the Democratic nominee!

18 August 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - As reported in the New York Times, a former presidential candidate will give his endorsement for this years' race in SAVAGE DRAGON #137, as the titular character supports Democratic nominee, Barack Obama!
"Four years ago the Dragon was a reluctant presidential candidate," SAVAGE DRAGON creator Erik Larsen said. "Fans have asked if he'll be running again, but given the importance of the upcoming election it seemed appropriate that he would back Barack Obama, the candidate whose politics most reflect his own. Savage Dragon will be giving Barack Obama his full support."

Savage Dragon made his initial play for the presidential election in the 2004 campaign, but rescinded once the man claiming to be his running mate turned out to be Dreadknight, a supervillain bent on world domination. SAVAGE DRAGON #137 will sport a special 1:5 variant cover featuring Dragon formally endorsing the one candidate he is confident is not a potential nemesis, Barack Obama.

SAVAGE DRAGON #137 (DEC072099), a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be available September 3rd, 2008. The full New York Times story may be read at http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/14/geek-beat-savage-love/.

JOE R. LANSDALE WRITES TALES FROM THE CRYPT
Award-Winning Novelist Contributes New Work to Classic Horror Comic

Booklist calls him “an immense talent.” The New York Times Book Review
praises his “folklorist’s eye for telling detail” and “ front-porch
raconteur’s sense of pace.” He’s won five Bram Stoker horror awards . .
.

. . . And now Joe R. Lansdale, best-selling author of Leather Maiden,
Bubba Ho-Tep, and The Bottoms, is writing TALES FROM THE CRYPT! In
issue #7’s “Moonlight Sonata,” written with Lansdale’s brother John and
drawn by Chris Noeth, a mugger thinks he's hit the jackpot when his
victim's keys open a millionaire's house; but things change when he
finds werewolves in the basement. The issue also contains “Ignoble
Rot,” by Fred Van Lente and Steve Mannion (in which a womanizing player
picks on the wrong female in New Orleans’ French Quarter) and
black-humor introductions by Jim Salicrup and Rick Parker.

TALES FROM THE CRYPT, published bi-monthly, is a 48-page full-color
revival of the classic 1950s horror comic book. Issue #7, cover-priced

“As a kid, Kyle Baker was obsessed with comic books and built a career in kids’ animation working on shows like Looney Tunes and Rugrats. Baker’s new book, NAT TURNER, is the furthest thing from kid stuff. It’s a graphic retelling of the violent 1831 slave rebellion in Virginia. Drawn in black and white and shades of grey, Baker depicts the historic revolt with a vivid, pulpy intensity. Baker tells Kurt (Andersen) how he ended up telling this story.”

PRESS RELEASE - DARWYN COOKE, MIKE ALLRED AND J. BONE MIX IT UP WITH MADMAN!The award-winning creator of DC: THE NEW FRONTIER illustrates and all-new MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS story!

14 August 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - DC: THE NEW FRONTIER author Darwyn Cooke will collaborate with writer J. Bone this November for an all-new story featuring Mike Allred's seminal creation, Madman, in MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS #14!

"Darwyn and I are like twins separated at birth," Allred said. "We dig all the same things and get ridiculously excited about whatever we're working on. We also throw fits whenever we're told 'no' by 'the Man', and, sometimes to our detriment, have a 'burned earth policy' when it comes to doing a project the way we want. Fortunately, we usually get the support needed to build our visions, and MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS is a prime example of that. Image Comics could not be more supportive in their backing me up with all my crazed paper dreams in MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS. They're just as jazzed as I am to invite Darwyn and mutual pal, and cool genius, J.Bone, on MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS #14!"

While Cooke and Allred have worked together on various projects such as CATWOMAN and THE X-STATIX, this will mark the very first time Darwyn and collaberator J. Bone have delved into a full story featuring Snap City's number one superhero. Their short, "Madman: The Movie," takes Frank Einstein and company down the treacherous road to Hollywood as a film studio intends to loosely adapt Frank's life story with some very strange results.

MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS #14, a 32-page full color comic book for $3.50, will be in-stores November 19th, 2008. In addition, Allred fans can meet the creator himself mere weeks before the issue's release on October 4th at San Francisco's Neon Monster.

"One of my unattained career goals was to do a children's book and when Kris brought BRUCE: THE LITTLE BLUE SPRUCE to me, I instantly knew this would be it," said Valentino. "Not only did I love the gentle message of accepting the differences in ourselves and others but the challenge of drawing a story where the principal character was a tree was too much to pass up!"

Just in time for the Holidays comes BRUCE: THE LITTLE BLUE SPRUCE, a heartwarming tale of Bruce, a blue spruce who wants nothing more than to be chosen by a special family as their Christmas tree. Engagingly written by Kristen Koerner Simon, illustrated by Image Comics co-founder and award-winning artist Jim Valentino and featuring painted color by THE SURREAL ADVENTURES OF EDGAR ALLAN POO's Avery Butterworth, BRUCE: THE LITTLE BLUE SPRUCE will charm even the most cynical of Scrooge's all year long.

Hey gang,
Just a quickie... In this week's Firebreather #2, you can check out a three page back up feature starring Li'l Duncan Rosenblatt by Tony Fleecs and myself. Mark my words, this is not the last time you'll see Tony's name in an amazing comic book this year, so, y'know, start your collecting.

And, while you're at it, the solicit for The Cleaners is up from Dark Horse is up right here: http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/15-214/The-Cleaners-1 The Cleaners is the brain child of Mark Wheaton, who some of you may remember as the best man at my wedding and an all around great guy. He's an absolute gem of a writer, and I'm totally honored to be alongside him as Dark Horse introduces him to the comics world. Art by the kickass Rashan Ekedal, and it's truly a sight to behold. Make sure you place your orders accordingly, folks.

And that'll do 'er for this week. Please, don't forget to vote daily for Alibi over at http://www.myspace.com/pilotseason. We're currently in last place, and I blame the communists. Let's show 'em what America is made of!

Cheers!

IDW RELEASES FUBEAR STUDIOS HC, BASED ON DIRECTOR DAVID SLADES’ SHORT FILM MEATDOG

(San Diego, August 13, 2008) -- What is Fubear? Fubear is the schism that exists between "funny ha-ha” and “funny-strange.” At least that’s what creator David Slade tells us.

Coming this August from IDW Publishing, Fubear is a nice, small, square hardcover collection of the illustrations which served as inspiration for the animated comic/horror short "Meatdog: What’s Fer Dinner”, a short film that premiered at Comic Con in July 2008 and will play to the over seven million users of Xbox LIVE this fall.

David Slade, the man behind the bear—Fubear Studios that is— is a motion picture director best known for his 2005 thriller and cult hit Hard Candy, as well as the 2007 movie adaptation of the IDW graphic novel 30 Days of Night, which opened at No. 1 at the box office. Slade, who originally trained in fine arts in his hometown of Sheffield, England, works not only in film and animation, but is also known as a brilliant graphic artist.

“Making films, dark thrillers, sometimes you need some light, but it has to be sincere,” says creator David Slade, “so I set off in search of my psyche in just my underwear, taking with me a handgun, a crutch, a pencil, and a shovel. In the end they all came to play, but mostly just the pencil. The pencil became a computer and various printing techniques, and that most recently became animation. I love learning craft and technique, and I delve into my psyche to get the meat.”

Fubear Studios brings a collection of Slade’s characters to life with his vivid illustration style. Included are "Meatdog" himself (a dog made of meat cuts); "Bearleftbear" (obsessive-compulsive bear in a car); the "Alienbears" (hungry, carnivorous octarian creatures from another universe); "Drumming Dogs," "Hazmat Bears" from a chemical psychoverse, and many more.

In “Meatdog”, the animated short for Xbox, Slade sends a church of evil occult pigs, a carnivorous rabbit, and a slobbering hound in pursuit of Meatdog, pitting our unlikely hero against, well, unlikely villains.

Discover the world of Fubear Studios when the hardcover book hits shelves in August, IBSN number 978-1-60010-332-2.
