March 20th, 2010 - Los Angeles, CA - BOOM! Studios and CBGB Holdings will release a sneak preview of the CBGB comic book mini-series at the SXSW CBGB Stories panel hosted by Seymour Stein, president and chairman of Sire Records. The comic book series bears not just CBGB’s name but also the attitude of the club that changed the world of music forever! For three decades the infamous venue broke acts like THE RAMONES, THE TALKING HEADS, BLONDIE, TELEVISION and many more.

During the CBGB Stories panel, a limited edition, original CBGB single page comic by Jesse Blaze Snider (DEADPOOL, TOY STORY) and Eisner Award-winner Chuck BB (BLACK METAL) will be passed out to the audience and press.

The four issue mini-series hitting store shelves this July, features the finest veteran and rookie talents in comics, portraying the tales of music, discovery, heartbreak, confusion, rebellion and greatness.

The first issue’s cover is by superstar LOVE & ROCKETS cartoonist Jaime Hernandez. Also confirmed for the anthology are Ana Matronic (songstress for Grammy-nominated band SCISSOR SISTERS), Kieron Gillen (PHONOGRAM, THOR), Kim Krizan (Academy Award-nominated writer of BEFORE SUNSET and BEFORE SUNRISE) Chuck BB (Eisner wining artist of BLACK METAL), Kelly Sue DeConnick (30 DAYS OF NIGHT: EBEN & STELLA), Rob G. (TEENAGERS FROM MARS, COURIERS), Sam Humphries (the architect behind MySpace Comics) Marc Ellerby (LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE) and many more!

“BOOM! is all about delivering fantastic work that’s not found anywhere else,” says editor Ian Brill. “The comic industry needs an outlet for the type stories found in CBGB, and we’re happy to be the ones working hard to bring these stories to smart, discriminating readers.”

“BOOM! got what we were about” says Louise Staley of CBGB. “Our attitude jumps off every page.”

“The club was as much about those in the mosh pit as it was the bands that played there,” adds Robert Williams of CBGB. “The narrative in this series celebrates both.”

The four-issue mini-series will be followed by a mass market hardcover collection in November, produced with the same high quality and attention to detail BOOM! has invested in all their collections.

CBGB Issue #1 ships to direct market comic shops this July and features a cover by Jaime Hernandez, stories by Kieron Gillen and Sam Humphries and art by Marc Ellerby and Rob G. Both the comic series and the hardcover will be published under BOOM! Studios new alt-comix label BOOM! Town.
