STAN ‘THE MAN’ LEE MAKES TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO PHOENIX COMICON
Comic Author to attend Phoenix Comicon
PHOENIX, AZ Nov. 4, 2010— Stan Lee, the legendary man behind some of America’s favorite comics including The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Spider-Man and The Hulk, will be at Phoenix Comicon this Memorial Day Weekend.
“Stan Lee said he enjoyed last year’s convention so much that he has agreed to come back, this time for two days,” Convention Director Matt Solberg announced to a cheering crowd at the Kick-Off Event Thursday night.
Stan Lee’s career and achievements are untouchable in the comic book world. By age 16 he was an assistant at the publishing house Timely Comics, which later evolved into Marvel Comics. It quickly became obvious that Lee was destined to greater things when he wrote his first, and wildly successful, comic “Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge." By age 19, Lee was promoted and became the youngest interim editor in the business, later taking on the roles as editor-in-chief and art director.
“Having Stan Lee at the convention last year was phenomenal. To have him come again this year is just surreal! I admire the man so much,” Joe Boudrie, Director of Programming said.
Stan Lee, now Chairman of Marvel Comics and Marvel Films, is recognized to millions around the world as the man whose beloved superheroes propelled Marvel to its distinguished position in the comic book industry. In more recent years, Lee continues to write new material and is very involved in his film company. He is known for his off-the-wall cameos in Marvel produced movies, like his most recent appearance in Iron Man 2 as an uncanny Larry King.
Phoenix Comicon is the signature pop culture event of the southwest, presenting guests and programming for hobbyists by attracting the top segments of the comics, anime, sci-fi, film, tv, and gaming industries. Entering its tenth year, Phoenix Comicon is expected to draw over 20,000 attendees to its May 26-29, 2011 convention held at the Phoenix Convention Center and Hyatt Regency in Downtown Phoenix.
