Austin, TX---Thursday, March 24, 2011– Mayor Lee Leffingwell of the City of Austin will be presenting Austin Books & Comics with the Austin Small Business of the Month award on Friday, March 25, scheduled from 12 pm to 12:30 pm at Austin Books & Comics, 5002 N. Lamar Blvd.

“Austin Books & Comics has been an Austin institution since 1977,” said Mayor Lee Leffingwell. “This multi-generational family-owned business has carried on the mission of providing comic book products, history and media to a diverse Austin community of pop culture fans.”

In recognition of the mayor’s bold statements in his State of the City address on February 25, referring to Austin as the "Green Lantern," ‘possessing a power ring and power lantern that gives Austinites great control over the physical world as long as they have sufficient willpower and strength to wield it,’ Austin Books & Comics is giting the mayor with a variety of Green Lantern licensed merchandise to help him in his citywide quest.

Brad Bankston, proprietor of Austin Books & Comics, states “Austin Books & Comics has been in business in Austin for nearly 35 years. We have witnessed and weathered many economic storms, technology booms and busts, population growth and changes to our community. But we’re always been here for comic book and pop culture fans, and we greatly appreciate the acknowledgement that the mayor and the City of Austin are giving to our business. ”

Austin Books & Comics is hosting it’s very own Green Lantern celebration in June, in anticipation of the nationwide release on June 17, 2011 of the Warner Brothers film "Green Lantern," based on the DC Comics character and starring Ryan Reynolds. More details on the upcoming Green Lantern event at Austin Books & Comics will be announced in April 2011.

Next week, Austin Books & Comics is bringing Godzilla®, the King of the Monsters, to Austin with a smashing book cover created by noted local comic artist Matt Frank. To celebrate the dramatic return of Godzilla to comics, Austin Books & Comics is hosting a special in-store event and signing with Frank on Wednesday, March 30, from 2 pm to 7 pm.
