Austin Books & Comics hosts signing event with Disney comic writers
Warren Spector (DuckTales) and Alan Porter (CARS)

Austin, TX---Wednesday, June 22, 2011– Austin Books & Comics, Central Texas’s biggest and oldest comics and pop culture retailer, is proud to announce a pair of special Disney comics events featuring Warren Spector, the acclaimed game designer and studio head behind Disney’s Epic Mickey video game, and Alan Porter, longtime Disney*Pixar/CARS comic writer. The events include a special CARS 2 screening hosted by partner Regal Cinemas.

Meet iconic games guru and newly-minted Disney comic writer Warren Spector at our special signing event, along with Disney*Pixar comic writer Alan Porter! Warren will be signing copies of his debut DuckTales comic book.

The mastermind creator behind the Epic Mickey video game from Disney, Spector recently released his new Ducktales comic, illustrated by veteran Disney comic artistsLeonel Castellani, Jose Massaroli, and Magic Eye Studios. Readers of all ages will thrill to the adventures of Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webbigail, the Beagle Boys, and the rest of Duckburg!

Spector has worked in the game industry for more than 20 years, working for Steve Jackson Games, then later at Origin Systems producing numerous hit games. After founding Ion Storm’s Austin studio in 1997, he directed the development of its genre-bending, award-winning game, Deus Ex.. He left Ion Storm in November 2004 to found Junction Point Studios, Inc., which was acquired by Disney Interactive Studios in July 2007. Junction Point is best known for releasing the 2010 hit title for Wii, Epic Mickey, which offered a unique twist on the world of Mickey Mouse.

Though now a fixture in the gaming world, Spector’s gaming roots are in the pen-and-paper game business, where he developed TOON: The Cartoon Role-Playing Game (among others) for Steve Jackson Games and at TSR, where he worked on the Top Secret/SI Espionage role-playing game, The Bullwinkle & Rocky Party Roleplaying Game and the Buck Rogers Battle for the 25th Century board game to name a few. Meet Disney*Pixar/CARS comicwriter Alan Porter

Bring out the kids for this fun family event and author signing, with CARS giveaways and enough vroom vroom for everyone! In celebration of the upcoming film release of CARS 2, we're hosting a special event with Alan Porter, comicwriter for Disney*Pixar's The World of CARS series for BOOM! Studios. Alan's CARS story "Rally Race" has been chosen as the first story to be featured in the just announced Disney*Pixar Presents magazine line from Disney Worldwide and Marvel Comics.

Also well-known as a pop culture writer, Porter is the author of BATMAN: The Unofficial Collectors Guide, JAMES BOND: The History of the Illustrated 007, and STAR TREK: A Comics History.
