Weekly mini-series moves into compilation for November
Deadworld:
War of the Dead, the weekly mini-series from Gary Reed and Sami
Makkonen, will be collected into trade paperback and released in
November by IDW. The five issue series, running in August, was
the first time the long running Deadworld series was presented in color
and provided an opportunity for new readers to check out the classic
zombie comic.
The storyline is set where the zombies have over run the Earth. A small outpost, remnants of a twisted scientist’s scheme to defeat the plague holds out against the army of King Zombie. Their
secret weapon are the Lepers---victims of a bizarre experiment that
left them with dead skin in breathing husks with flesh that even zombies
won’t touch. It is a war of intelligence versus primal instinct---the will to survive against the craving for flesh.
Deadworld
has been called by From the Tomb magazine as one of “the essential
horror titles of the last 20 years” and picked by Fangoria as one of the
Top Ten horror comics. The recent original graphic novel, The Last
Siesta, was nominated for the Ghastly Awards and the Comic Monsters Awards.
“The enthusiasm for the series was great,” said writer and creator, Gary Reed. “I think the weekly aspect got a lot of attention for the series and it seemed to find a lot of new people checking it out. The response has been fantastic.”
Reed
said that news of what’s next for Deadworld would be made shortly
although the Deadworld trading card set from Breygent is set to come out
in October.
The
graphic novel collection ships in November from IDW and is in the
September Previews (for November shipping), order # SEP12 0375
