Exploring San Diego-Based Xtreme Justice League Releases Today on
Thrash Lab YouTube Channel As Part of Popular Web Series Subculture Club
December 12, 2012--- Sheldon Candis has teamed up with Thrash Lab (Ashton Kutcher’s YouTube Premium Channel) for a new short-doc “The Subculture of Real Life Superheroes,”
based on the real life superhero movement Xtreme Justice League in San
Diego. The short is premiering today on Thrash Lab’s popular web series Subculture Club.
Thrash Lab’s Subculture Club series is
- a documentary-style show that takes you on an exploration of
lifestyles and communities that are not typically known or experienced
by all. Subcultures are emerging into the mainstream in the digital age
of connectivity. Thrash Lab excavates deep into the cultural divide
between US and THEM and explores how and why the divides exist.
The Subculture of Real Life Superheroes
follows the popular and inspiring real life superhero group called the
“Xtreme Justice League,” which is led by Mr. Xtreme and members Urban
Avenger, Grim, Vigilante Spider and Divine Force. The story chronicles
their activism and everyday superhero duties of protecting society.
The Subculture of Real Life Superheroes
was Written and Directed by Candis. Executive Produced by Ashton
Kutcher and Anthony Batt (Creative Director). Brin Lukens and Karen Hart
are co-Executive Producers with Joel Newton serving as Producer. Art
Direction by Rachel Ma.
The Subculture of Real Life Superheroes can be viewed now by visiting http://bit.ly/TPp47s and on ThrashLab.com.
“Superheroes are for both children and adults. With
so many varying characters there is at least one superhero everyone can
take a liking to. We heard about these guys that live their lives
playing the role of superhero, but we didn't really understand why they
did it; if it was because of their love and appreciation for superheroes
or to actually protect their communities. So with Candis’
help, we explored a community of Real Life Superheroes in San Diego and
got a glimpse into their lives and the behaviors that make them
superheroes in real life.” -‐ Thrash Lab -‐
“It’s
an honor to work with the Xtreme Justice League, they are a special
group of Activists who faithfully give of themselves to protect and
guard the city of San Diego,” commented Sheldon Candis. “I’m excited for
the world to experience the continued story of Mr. Xtreme and the Real
Life Superheroes movement.”
The
announcement comes in anticipation of Candis’s highly acclaimed
Sundance film LUV, which is set to hit theatres nationwide on January
18.
Candis’s debut feature film LUV,
which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, is a gritty and
touching portrait about a boy and his uncle set within 24 hours on the
rough streets of Baltimore. The film is directed by Candis, written by
Candis and Justin Wilson and stars Common, newcomer Michael Rainey Jr.,
Charles S. Dutton, Meagan Good, Marc John Jefferies, Lonette McKee,
Michael Kenneth Williams, Tracey Heggins with Dennis Haysbert and Danny
Glover. LUV also features the music of Interscope recording artist
Blaqstarr. LUV premieres on January 18 exclusively in AMC Theatres
nationwide.
Candis’s
creative movement 'Cinephile Academy' has created web content for Under
Armour, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and infamous street
artist Banksy.
