Premiere Special SUPER COMET ISON 2013 Follows Landmark Celestial Event
Featuring Stunning Images from Mars, and Leading Observatories Spanning
the Globe—
(Silver
Spring, Md.)—A massive glowing “super comet” made its path toward Earth
at speeds exceeding 425,000 miles per hour – and Science Channel will
air the definitive special chronicling its historic voyage. The world
premiere special SUPER COMET ISON 2013 will offer stunning views
of the Comet ISON from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and leading
observatories across Earth as it completed its 4.5 trillion mile journey
which began millions of years ago. SUPER COMET ISON 2013 will premiere on Science Channel on Saturday, December 7 at 10PM ET/PT.
ISON was predicted to be one of the most significant comets in recorded history. SUPER COMET ISON 2013 will
tell the entire story in the life cycle of the comet. This special
will offer mind-blowing views of historic celestial fireworks with
stunning HD images from an interplanetary network of HD cameras
headlined by NASA’s Goddard Space Center.
For SUPER COMET ISON 2013,
Science Channel assembled a star-studded line-up of world-renowned
astronomers and astrophysicists to curate coverage of the comets
flight. Host Dan Rifkin will guide viewers along ISON’s spin around the
solar system accompanied by other leading minds including: Dr. Matthew
Knight (Comet Scientist, Lowell Observatory), Karl Battams
(Astrophysicist, Naval Research Lab), and Dr. Carey Lisse (Sr.
Scientist, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab) to name a few.
“There
are very few events that create true global moments – happenings that
touch every human on Earth and bind us together. The passing of Comet
ISON is one of those moments,” said Debbie Adler Myers, General Manager
and Executive Vice President of Science Channel. “SUPER COMET ISON 2013” combines
stunning images from Mars, and all around Earth, with the most credible
scientific minds and organizations. We hope everyone will tune into
Science Channel to learn about the brilliant journey of this significant
scientific event.”
