WIN AN ORIGINAL PAINTING OF YOURSELF AS VELDA: GIRL DETECTIVE!
Caliber Comics and Creator Ron Miller Sponsor Look-A-Like Contest!

April 20, 2015. Caliber Comics, in association with Velda: Girl Detective
creator Ron Miller, is offering a unique prize for a unique contest. A
look-a-like competition with the winner receiving an original fully
painted version of themselves as Velda, the title character of Miller’s
recently released graphic novel series.

Released as a series of graphic novels following the individual digital
comics, Velda: Girl Detective is a multi-leveled representation of the
more lurid of the 1950s crime comics as if it actually existed as a
classic Golden Age comic. These collected series are a passing homage to
the noir films and hard-boiled detective school of writing of the 1950s.
The first two volumes have been released and the third will be arriving in
stores in early May.

Created by Ron Miller, a Hugo Award winning artist, Velda: Girl Detective
is more than a spoof of the crime comics of the past as it also has a
number of special features such as a Velda paper doll kit and the complete
1952 Velda pinup calendar. The comics also include vintage ads to amuse
readers as well as featurettes such as "Hawkshaw Hawk, Bird Detective" and
"Neolithica: Girl of the Pleistocene."

For the contest, participants have to take a picture of themselves
appearing as Velda and the winner will be chosen by Miller and Caliber
Comics’ publisher, Gary Reed. The winner will have an original painting
by Miller depicting them as Velda. In addition, they will receive ten
various graphic novels from Caliber including the Velda books autographed
by Miller. Contestants are to send their entries to
calibercomicsent(at)gmail.com.

The contest ends on April 30, 2015 and winners will be announced by May
15. Of course, there is no entry fee or other stipulations.
