Original-Owner Golden Age Comics, CGC Contest at the 2009 Baltimore Comic-Con
Baltimore, Maryland - October 3, 2009 - Besides all of the creators, panels, costume contests, and awards ceremony occurring at the 10th annual Baltimore Comic-Con on October 10-11, 2009, this year's show features some amazing events for collectors of all types!
Original-Owner Golden Age Comics Sale
John Haines Rare Comics is pleased to announce the premiere of an original-owner Golden-Age comic book collection at this year's Baltimore Comic-Con. This collection consists of most major super-hero titles published between 1952 and 1954, including all but two issues of the Atlas Super-Hero series. Veteran collectors know how rarely comics from this period surface and will want to be on-hand to view and purchase these seldom-seen treasures. Several examples already graded by CGC include: Sub-Mariner #38 CGC 6.0, Young Men #27 CGC 6.0, Adventure #210 CGC 5.5, and Detective #225 CGC 5.5. For a complete list of comics from this collection, visit the John Haines Rare Comics web site at www.comicsandfriends.com.
CGC Grading Contest
If you are going to the Baltimore Comic-Con, then it's time to test your grading skills! Together with GPA for Comics (http://comics.gpanalysis.com), Matt Nelson and Richard Evans will host the 3rd Official CGC grading contest at the show. The contest will be held throughout the weekend at the Classics Incorporated/Worldwide Comics booth.
The rules have changed: grade 20 comics in 20 minutes. No restoration check this time, as all 20 books will be unrestored. First place prize is $250 and bragging rights. Only 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are announced, but each participant's individual scores will be e-mailed to them.
The cost has dropped too. If you are currently a subscriber to GPA for Comics, then your cost to compete is nothing! GPA will cover the usual $10 entry fee for all paid members. To sign up, simply log in to your GPA account and click on "Grading Contest" on the main menu. For those non-subscribers who wish to participate, GPA will pay half of that fee. So you pay either nothing or $5 to play! Set aside 20 minutes while you're at the show, come by the booth, and test your grading skills!
Please visit www.classicsincorporated.com for information regarding contest rules and results.
