August 23, 2011 – Los Angeles, CA – Hot on the heels of BOOM!’s sold out, bestselling PLANET OF THE APES ongoing series comes BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES — a brand new four issue mini-series co-written and drawn by Gabriel Hardman, best known to fans for his series-defining work on HULK and AGENTS OF ATLAS and his storyboard work on such hit films as Christopher Nolan’s Inception.

With BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, Hardman and writer Corinna Sara Bechko (HEATHENTOWN, FEAR ITSELF: THE HOME FRONT) take you right into the continuity of the original seminal fan-favorite film, as the feared and respected General Aleron finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could transform ape/human relations! Aleron’s journey puts him face to face with…Dr. Zaius! A not-to-be-missed mini-series with story and art that is sure to make you go…ape!

"I've been dying to work on a PLANET OF THE APES comic for as long as I can remember," said artist and co-writer Gabriel Hardman. "When Corinna and I saw what a great job BOOM! did with their ongoing Apes book we jumped at the opportunity to write and draw this mini-series. Since our comic is set just prior to the first Planet of the Apes film, we're given the opportunity to play with the most iconic elements of the films while still telling an accessible, epic, action-adventure story."

"Working with Gabriel Hardman is always a thrill, but this project is something really special," said co-writer Corinna Sara Bechko. "Not only am I a huge fan of the films but I spent five years working with actual apes at the L.A. Zoo, a fact that gives me a somewhat unique perspective on ape-human relations. I adore what BOOM! has been doing with the series and am incredibly excited to unleash our Apes story on the world!"

"Gabriel Hardman was one of the first artists I worked with on ZOMBIE TALES when I came to BOOM! back in 2008, and it's a real treat to be working with such a talented artist and writer," BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon said. "Hardman, along with co-writer Corinna Sara Bechko, is bringing a brand-new PLANET OF THE APES story, in continuity with the original films, that will have old and new fans alike clamoring for the next issue. I can't wait to get this series into comic book readers' hands everywhere. It's going to blow people's minds."

"It's great to have Gabriel Hardman back doing work for BOOM! Gabriel has long been one of my favorite comic book artists, and he and Corinna are delivering the goods," BOOM! Studios Marketing and Sales Director Chip Mosher said. "PLANET OF THE APES fans are going to love this, and all the new fans from this summer's hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes are going to dig this series too. Don't dare miss it!"

The first issue ships with four distinct covers, with interior artist and co-writer Gabriel Hardman providing Cover A, a 1-in-20 Dr. Zaius Photo Chase cover for Cover B, a 1-in-25 Chase Cover with art by STARBORN colorist Mitch Gerads, and a 1-in-25 Retailer Incentive cover by WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? artist Tonci Zonjic.

BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES #1 (of 4) debuts this November with a cover price of $3.99 and carries a Diamond Code of SEP110880.
