New York, July 6th, 2012 – Comic-Con International is known as the crossroads of the comics and film mediums, and the new graphic novel NEVSKY: A Hero of the People, which debuts at this year's show, provides a perfect example of how the two mediums influence each other via the enduring vision of iconic Russian filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein.

Join writer Ben McCool (Choker, Pigs), historian Steve Saffel (Spider-Man the Icon), writer/director Scott Tuft (Severed), storyboard artist Gabriel Hardman (Inception) and Eisner-nominated artist Ramon Perez (A Tale of Sand) as they talk about how storytelling techniques introduced by Eisenstein are not only reflected in the graphic novel, as visualized by artist Mario Guevara (Solomon Kane), but have influenced such artists as Frank Miller and Howard Chaykin.

What: HEROIC VISIONS: Sergei Eisenstein's NEVSKY form Screen to Panel
When: Saturday, July 14th, 4-5pm
Where: Room 23ABC

Pioneering filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein developed many storytelling techniques that revolutionized film and have influenced comics. The new graphic novel by Ben McCool and Mario Guevara based on his classic motion picture ALEXANDER NEVSKY not only presents a timeless story of heroic deeds but highlights the way film and comics interact and influence once another. Join our panel to explore how the making of NEVSKY the graphic novel is expanding the themes of Eisenstein's work while presenting a look at storytelling though the ages. The panel will include lots of AV elements including clips of the movie, the comic trailer and art from the book. Presented by RUSS Intellectual Properties and Trident Media Group

Hailed by the LA Times as "reminiscent of the majestic but reality-based imagery of Hal Foster’s “Prince Valiant” comic strip” the graphic novel NEVSKY: A HERO OF THE PEOPLE is a story of heroism and daring as the young Russian commander Alexander Nevsky must defend his country against the far better armed Teutonic Knights. As well as being an exciting, visually stunning tale in the spirit of Frank Miller’s 300, NEVSKY, which will be published by IDW on July 17th, is also notable as the adaptation of a beloved piece of filmmaking: the iconic genius of Sergei Eisenstein’s classic Russian film, Alexander Nevsky.
