IGN COMICS FOUNDER TO LAUNCH SCI-FI REVENGE COMIC BOOK “GOLEM”
Nerdist and Comics Beat Show Support for Kickstarter Exclusive Trade Paperback; Innovative New Mobile App to Follow
They framed Danya Ben-El'azar for the murder of the President, executed her husband in front of her, and nearly took the life of her son. Big mistake. Exiled from America, Danya and her six-year-old son Jonah have become the international mercenary team known only as Golem. With sword and pistol, mother and son travel the world hunting the people who destroyed their lives.
Selected by Nerdist.com and Comics Beat as a Kickstarter project worth backing, GOLEM offers a futuristic twist on the the Jewish legend of a monster formed from clay to protect the innocent. Supporters gain an exclusive version of the forthcoming trade paperback.
Funding also goes towards the development of a brand-new mobile “Comic Book Director's Cut” app that will revolutionize the way creators connect with readers. This app will be made available for use by independent comics creators following the launch of GOLEM.
Details on the project can be found at: golemcomic.com
“Kickstarter offers an amazing opportunity for creators to produce their passion projects, regardless of whether or not it fits what a publisher is looking for at the time,” says Hilary Goldstein, creator and writer of GOLEM. “Fans get more insight and a closer connection to writers and artists this way and are a part of the foundation for making a comic book.”
Following a decade of covering the entertainment industry, former IGN Editor-in-Chief Hilary Goldstein is set to enter the comics world from the creative side. Giovanni P. Timpano (G.I. JOE: INFECTION) provides the art, video game veteran developer Laura Schumacher is the colorist, and Garry Brown (INCORRUPTIBLE) is creating covers for all four chapters.
“It's incredible to have such a great team of artists bringing Golem to life,” says Goldstein. “I'm amazed every day by the work that shows up in my inbox. And I make sure backers of our project get to see the creation process as it happens.”
The GOLEM Kickstarter recently met its funding goal, but there are numerous bonus rewards offered to those who back the project in its final week. The project functions as a way of pre-ordering the book and ensuring a copy is in your hands.
Backer incentives include a personal sketch from Timpano, private editing session with Goldstein, the opportunity to have a character named after you, and the chance to be killed in GOLEM by comics' newest femme fatale, Danya Ben-El'azar.
GOLEM hits shelves next summer, but Kickstarter backers get an exclusive version of the TPB in April 2013.
