Marc Boutavant To Tour United States
Artist of the Ariol Graphic Novel Series From Papercutz and the Mouk Picture Books From Chronicle To Conclude Visit With an Appearance at Miami International Book Fair
Marc Boutavant, artist on the charming series Ariol (written by Emmanuel Guibert of The Photographer), is coming to the United States at the request of the French Embassy and will tour several cities in November which will culminate at the Miami Book Fair, the week before Thanksgiving.
Papercutz launched Ariol earlier this year and released a second volume three months later and immediately went back to press. Featured in the Los Angeles Times' "Summer Reading" supplement, Ariol has been described as a, "cross between the work of Richard Scarry and Hergé (Publisher's Weekly) and is, "Great for reluctant readers and graphic-novel fans in general (School Library Journal)
Originating from Burgundy (as do the best snails in France – according to Marc) he now lives and works in Paris. With his appreciation of the finer things in life, he has often been described as the archetypal French man (even by French people).
His work springs from a wry observation of life and the interaction of his friends and children. Their quirks of personality, mannerisms and reactions to situations are transposed onto his characters. These are creatures with a full gamut of emotions. The adventures they share become the narrative tableau for this cast of companions. With so much activity in every corner, each scenario felt and imagined in detail, light hearted horror, comedy and pathos combine to form a rich narrative.

Illustrator Marc Boutavant visits Bank Street Bookstore for a special story hour reading of Sonia Goldie's Ghosts.
A playful, delightful book beautifully illustrated by Marc, Ghosts sets the record straight about ghosts. Ghosts are not sheets with holes dragging around a ball and chain. Indeed, they're just as colorful and diverse as humans. Here you'll meet the ghost of the chimney, the TV, the kitchen, and the library, to mention just a few.
