The HPA Launches Imagine Better
New organization will bring together fan communities for social change
Boston, MA – Today, the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) launched Imagine Better, an organization that will bring together fan communities from across the spectrum of movies, music, television shows, games, and books in an unprecedented network harnessing popular culture for social change. Following the model of the HPA, Imagine Better will work to tackle real world issues using parallels from each individual fan community.
“As the Harry Potter phenomenon enters a new chapter, Imagine Better is a natural progression,” said HPA Executive Director Andrew Slack. “It allows fans to come together through the passion they feel for stories as a starting point for changing individuals and communities across the world.”
Imagine Better will initially include partnerships with the Vlogbrothers and Nerdfighteria, prominent YouTubers Dan Brown and Shawn Ahmed, various best-selling young adult authors, and websites from over twenty fan communities.
The first official campaign of Imagine Better is the Imagine Better contest, also a part of the HPA’s Deathly Hallows Campaign. As a part of the Climate Crisis Horcrux, the last Horcrux in the Deathly Hallows Campaign, the HPA, in partnership with Splashlife, is running two contests. One contest asks for artwork and the other for ideas for how to defeat the Climate Crisis.
The advisory board for the contest includes leaders in social media, the environmental movement, and entertainment, including actors Jason Alexander (George in Seinfeld), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter), and Anthony Stewart Head (Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
The initial blueprint for Imagine Better has been hailed by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg as the premier model for civic engagement in the twenty-first century. For the time being, Imagine Better will exist as a part of the Harry Potter Alliance. Over time, Imagine Better will develop into its own non-profit organization that will allow different fan communities to collaborate and make changes throughout the world for social change.
